Re: News from Down Under

Hi Chaps, It has been a long hard week since I last wrote on here but not as hard as it has been for Dawn and Barry M who bore most of the load in organising the weekend. Ann and I have been general dogsbodies, helping out where we could and talking - talking - talking to many club members and enthu...

Re: Going ploughing

We came in from Dubai so crossed the coast just below Perth then over the Great Australian Bight, waving to all my relations as we passed Adelaide on the way to Melbourne. Will report on other thread later but we have spent the last couple of days on the Deniliquin show ground helping to set up the ...

Re: Super Dexta help

Just take the two screws out of the side cover then open the timing cover on the bell housing. Set to the required timing mark and then check the mark on the gear lines up with the pointer. Same for both pneumatic and mechanical governors.

Re: Super Dexta help

If you have had the pump off are you sure you timed it to the correct mark on the pump drive gear? There are two close together.

Re: News from Down Under

They say that Australia is the land of opportunity, well it certainly is for me. When we first came over in 2011 I had the chance to meet and drive a tractor that I had adored from afar, the 8401. Then, in 2012 there was the tractor trek through the Mali on a Petrol Dexta with Ann on a diesel one. I...

Re: RAF fordson standard N gearbox

I have been on a road run with two friends, one of whom was driving a Fordson "N". I stupidly, made the comment that we would all have to drive slowly to keep with him and was shocked when he took off faster than a petrol Dexta!

His "N" would do just over 20 mph.

Re: Going ploughing

Different land and different ploughing styles Mathias. We, historically, have always ploughed 10" furrows then some people went up to 12" TS 82 was 12" and 14" and this carried on with the 102. The 107 was an anomaly here, we did not really start using 16" furrows until the introduction of the Vary ...

Re: Going ploughing

Mathias, it is possible that you do not have a TSR 102 if your furrow widths are 14" and !6". What you have is a TSR 107 which looks exactly like the 102 but has more clearance and the wider furrow settings. Otherwise the plough is the same and it is hard to tell the difference between them until yo...

Re: Adjusting the Hydraulic draft control spring on a Super

On a NP Super: 1. Raise lift arms. 2. Screw top link in until you have minimum in/out movement. If you go further the in/out movement will increase, back off until you have minimum movement. Movement should be 0 - 3/16th" approx. If more than this, remove the adjustable rod, remove the round housing...

Have seen most of the Health and Safety films as my late brother-in-law was a Senior Health and Safety Inspector and ended up working in Europe trying to get them to see sense when drafting the regulations. In my other life, I taught Health and Safety to farmers from the introduction of the COSHH re...

Thanks for posting that video Bob, brought back many memories as I have used or serviced most of the farm equipment shown. I did the "riding on the bale sled" job when I was about 12. We used a lot of bunchers like the Welger one and we sold a Claas version, farmers prefered the bunches to bales to ...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???

After June 1962 Super Majors had a Minimec Pump, "FL" cylinder head, drop restrictor on the front of the hydraulic lift and a different hydraulic lift top cover. Your tractor does not seem to have any of these. The picture of your Super is on page 11. http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp155/Majorma...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???

Yes, they should all be soldered together. The pictures are a great help, firstly you have a 1962 Super by the look of it, what we call an "Orange Wheeled" Super. It does not have a Minimec pump so it is pre-July 1962. Because it is a vacuum governed pump, it could have faulty pipes going to the gov...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???

The return line runs along the tops of the injectors under the valve cover. It is made up of four brass banjo fittings one for each injector and these are soldered on to a metal pipe which connects them all together. This pipe then goes to a brass fitting in the head which connects through the head ...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???

Leak off pipes leaking could be putting diesel into the oil which would give you smoke and high idle. If they are leaking that much you can get to a point where the engine will run just on the diesel in the oil. The engine will then run away out of control and you will be able to check your crank sh...

Re: Super NP mark II

I wonder if Dies has got an Edbro. Or possibly an NP Super that has been "modified" in Holland or over here. NP Super production finished in about July 1964 and the production line was removed from Dagenham and sent to Spain within a few weeks. Tractors from that point were built out of parts held i...

Re: 1981 Ford 7600 Power plus Diesel pump Problem

Each pumping element in the pump is independently adjusted to deliver the right amount of fuel required.

It is a job for a specialist diesel shop with the right test equipment to "phase" the pump. It is possible that your pump adjustment has slipped on that pumping element.

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???

If he has a 1964 Super Major it will have a Minimec pump so no vacuum lines. White smoke can be over-fueled, blocked air cleaner, oil burning, low compression or head gasket. All the information we have is, it blew black smoke then white and now has a fast tickover. It could be a faulty injection pu...

Re: How to clean fuel lift pump?

If you are getting air bubbles in the suction side you could have an air leak. You could also have a blocked filter in the tank tap. You need to remove the tap from the bottom of the tank to check this. Be prepared for the new under arm deodorant, Diesel. Have you tried taking the single bolt out of...
