Re: super dexta instrument box

And while you have removed the gear selectors, take a look at the balls on the lower end of the levers to see if they are worn. If so you can build them up with weld and regrind them.

Re: lost oil pressure

Hi Spike A word of caution if you are thinking of replacing the big end bearings. When you release the shells if you push the piston and con rod up out of the block then OK. BUT if you let the piston and con rod go down too far (ie letting the con rod go past the journal by rotating the crankshaft) ...

This might help
https://www.machinemart.co.uk/documents ... _09_14.pdf

It says do not use solvents but then says "solvent pump"??
I use the parts washer fluid and it woks fine, just need to use a stiff brush to dislodge the hard stuff.

Re: Brown's ROPS frame

Loosen the axle bolts sufficient for the frame tubes to be loose, fit the top piece in and secure it then tighten the axle bolts. You may end up bending the base plates but it should work 'cept you wont be able to slide out the top piece. Or find a blacksmith with a forge and heat up the plates to b...

Re: Parts washers?

Hi John
I have a Machine Mart parts washer and degreaser fluid. The fluid does shift most gunge and is kind to your hands if you wash them with soap and use hand cream to replace the skin oils removed by the fluid. Best to use gloves though.

If I can add my tuppence worth! I rebuilt my Dexta engine and after its first starting and checks for oil pressure and leaks etc I put it to work topping a 2 acre paddock of two year old Nettles, thistles, docks and other thick weeds. She happily went through the field with no problems and now 4 yea...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild

Hi Dextrous
Couldn't help noticing that your using Metric spanners! The Dexta uses Imperial nuts and threads so I would suggest you invest (posh word for go out and buy) in a set of A/F spanners (open jaw and ring/combination) and sockets otherwise you will be rounding off nuts.

Re: Little different Tractor

So only drive to the RH axle? So with a little loss of traction on that side and you are stuck! A bodge job that a good engineer wouldn't entertain. It does not in any way "improve" what was a good system in the first place. You have got to love that milky water emulsified oil and is a real "acciden...

Hi CalGG Vermont eh! Used to spend 3 weeks at a time in Manchester, New Hampshire usually late fall (my boss seemed to book my time there after the last leaf had fallen) just when it used to start to snow. A useful tip (learnt when in the Army in Germany) when trying to start a diesel when very cold...

I had my Dexta block relined to the 152 Cu In size and used the original pump etc with no noticeable difference. One problem with the old 144 Cu In block is that that size of head gasket is now unobtainable. The difference in bore I don't think would make much difference anyway but I may be correcte...

Hi John
well done and a big sigh of relief that nothing was sheared, bent or chewed.
I notice your tyres have a good tread, who changed the tyres?
I guess whoever did used a truck tyre impact wrench (1" drive?) to put those nuts back on.
I guess your a happy bunny now

Re: Engine adapter plate bolts

Hi Nick Those bolts are UNF so any "bolt shop" should be able to supply them. I used long bolts that went through the adapter plate and were then held by a nut with spacers. It might be a good idea to acquire a selection of UNF and UNC bolts as you will find during your restoration that there are a ...

Hi Ian Those pics and advice are a goldmine! Regarding replacing the whole assembly, and this goes for mating engine to clutch housing etc. If you find a long spare bolt or two then cut the heads off and grind the top with flats to take a spanner. Insert this bolt (or more) into the base and then yo...

One of mine has a PUH, hardly used as there are very few ring hitch trailers about for me, 50mm ball is more useful on a swinging drawbar.
