Re: Gearbox noises
Thanks Henk Yes when using the left brake it makes a bang as if it's taking up alot of backlash and also changing direction... I'd never thought of that! How do you go about stripping that out.. Is it a top cover off job? Ps I've changed the backend oil and checked the magnets and found nothing :scr...

Gearbox noises
Since I've owned my diesel major it's always had a noisy and graunchy gearbox/backend and people have always told me that's just how they are but it seems to be getting worse, it just used to be on the road but it's even doing it now whilst ploughing, the vibration is travelling up through the wings...

That sounds like a dowty washer to me very common in hydraulics and they are available in imperial and metric and readily available at all hydraulic specialist and agricultural dealers.

Re: E1A Hydraulic Setup
I think the idea is so the unload valve resets without having to reset the lift lower lever to neutral to start to lift again. For example your using a loader to muck out a shed, drive into the muck and try to lift but it hasn't got enough power to tear out the manure so you can back out a little un...

Re: E1A Hydraulic Setup
The new o-ring from the land of the nearly right was unfortunately.... you guessed in not quite right.... too thin so the old one went back in but it could possibly be leaking there. as it wasn't perfect, I was actually quite impressed with the cylinder and it's conditions so I don't think the fault...

Re: E1A Hydraulic Setup
Thanks for both your replies Henk and Brian, I replaced my piston seal even though it didn't seem to bad and cleaned up the cylinder again not sure that was the fault , the o-ring you mentioned Brian is that the large one on the outer of the cylinder against the top cover? Hopefully i'll get a chanc...

E1A Hydraulic Setup
Hello all does anybody know the correct Max PSI that a Diesel Major should be set to? I want to get mine all set up and find the leak that stops the hydraulics lowering on their own... (already changed the piston seal) Also does anybody know where you can get a decent clear copy of the service manua...

2050psi I've just found it... I'm a bit worried of pushing it too far and cracking the pump, what was your diesel major set to?

Re: NP Super hydraulics
Yes I did to try and stop it creeping down, but it still does... when I ordered the seal there was a choice of 2 so I just ordered both, one was for a super and one prior to the super, we couldn't find out which was which... It turned out mine was the smaller piston seal... So the super must have a ...

Re: NP Super hydraulics
Adrian this is the stuff I've dreamed of a major with this plough!!! Though it looks like you've proved my theory of the super having a greater lift capacity than the diesel major... my tractor will barely lift exactly the same plough only just off the ground with the rear land wheel removed  I...

Re: Fordson Diesel Major Dynamometer Test D Series 2701E
Yes you'r dead right Guduell my hp at 540PTO / 1200 Engine revs is 33.8 hp :) Yes I thought that the torque curve was a bit disapointing maybe is because it's a fixed mass governor without a ramp? So a standard diesel major being dyno'd on youtube by Phillip show's 50hp at 880PTO - to mine is 52hp s...

Re: Out and about, with my major. Recon pump and injectors
Hi Robert no there's just the one on each injector, this is the same for every single engine I've ever worked on, that doesn't mean that some have more than one and I can't see a reason to ever fit 2, I think it's safe to take an educated guess that yours 2 should only have one. Heres my injectors.....

Re: Fordson Diesel Major Dynamometer Test D Series 2701E
Hi Adrian here's the results -a little down on what I was hoping for 56.3 max hp and only 33.8hp at 550rpm it could do with a minor tweek on the max fuel screw I think. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a491/Stu_Fletch/DSC_2928_zps50cd6d57.jpg Robert the specification in the manual is 71hp at 2500...

Fordson Diesel Major Dynamometer Test D Series 2701E
After I had my injectors and the injection pump overhauled I wanted to run the tractor back on the dynamometer to check that the fault had be cured and to get it up to full operating temperature. Re: Water in motor!!
The easiest way is to remove all injectors and turn it over 2 revolutions 1st by hand and then on the starter, (it may be an idea to keep some paper towel around the head to catch the expelled water to stop it going into the sump, just make sure it doesn't get sucked back into the combustion chamber...

Yes it is, I'm going to put it on the dynamometer this morning to see how it is working under load and set the fueling screw. Hopefully I'll put a video on later.

Re: What are these drillings for?
You could T into the lift ram line and fit an accumulator which is what i'm looking into... I just need to calculate the volume of the lift cylinder and assister ram and the pressure it will need to hold. These are what are incorporated in all linkages on current production tractors... only a though...

Re: location of rear axle oil filling plug
Hi, it's the plug which somebody's used to return hydraulic oil back into the rear aaxle which is quite common so the top picture is correct. I'm not sure what the other plug is for, i've always meant to take mine out just to find out, when I do I'll let you know.
