Re: 1963 FSM front wheel spokes
Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as that, as many of the part nos. on castings don't match those in the book. Going back to the rear axle there's another one or two finished parts, the ones for a reverse crown wheel, I dont't know if there was a speedo version of that but there certainly was ...

The baler is a Köla, which is a German make and an abbreviation of Ködel & Böhm. The factory was taken over by Fahr and later on it became Deutz-Fahr. The baler resembles a nh baler indeed in design. It uses comparable Rasspe knotters and the same needles. I never bale with the major. I once had the...

Re: 1963 FSM front wheel spokes
Hi Sandy, . The cast in E1a no’s are mould numbers, eg the part no of the mould. Out of one mould several part no’s can be machined. For example the rear axle housing casting is always the same, so same mould. But it can be machined to the std one, or to the one with speedometer connection. That mea...

Hi,
3 spoke it should be.
The e1adkn code means this casting mould was designed in the era of tvo models and has not been updated. A redesigned part or mould would have had the prefix e1addn when designed later on.

Re: Compression Test
How sure are you about injection timing? White smoke indicates wrong timing to me and I once encountered that on a fresh rebuilt engine. Clamp bolts on drive shaft were loose, injection retarded. Lots of smoke and barely running. I’ve never seen a major diesel with such a low compression that you co...

Hi, I live near the Ruhrgebiet. Bit to far to come over to check the tractor out .
Not many fords in Fendt country i suspect. You don’t see many in this side of Germany at least.

Which box were depends on country specs. 8 box was standard and for I think france and Germany an extra plunger was fitted between the high low selector shaft and the selector shaft for 4th gear, preventing shifting in 4 high. Where in Germany are you located? It can be a Dutch or Belgian import for...

Re: Ford Dexta 2000 year of manufacturing unknown
Hi, The serial is the A 114887 and proves this is an Antwerp build Ford 2000. For UK and some European countries these were also labelled in the old style names. That makes sense with the construction of 10/65. The C5NN numbers do not mean much. They are part nos of the rough castings. I think you’r...

Thanks for your answer. Im about 20 years younger then the last built majors, so I can’t go by experience on original tractors and are happy with the experience from those who have seen them when they were reasonably new.

Hi,
How did ford organise production? I can imagine that they did produce sheet metal themselves and also outsourced to contract manufacturers. Then slight details in “identical” parts can occur.

Re: Fordson New Major prices
Hi Emiel The very early tractors prior to about April 1952 had a catch that you had to bend down to reach and flick it over whilst pressing the brake pedals in order to lock them on, these early tractors also had mudguards with the curved seam near the top and two pressings in the vertical face. Ar...

Hi,
Difficult to judge without seeing the tractors. Imho a tractor is only original once and many buyers do value that.
What is a flick catch footbrake? Is it different to the t handle you’ve to lift for parking brake which I’m used to?

Re: N stub axle question
An e27n engine is not a direct fit. The clutch is different and therefore the crankshaft. This requires the n crankshaft in a side valve engine. Making a P6 to fit will be a good way of burning value. The engine in e27n specs is worth more then the tractor after the engine change.

Re: FMD Starter problem.
Hi, Slipping clutch indicates itself by a spinning starter and a hardly or not turning engine. I had this on our diesel major. Repair was easy. Taking starter apart, taking clutch apart and clean the disks. In my case they were greasy from a leaking crank shaft seal. Starting improved a lot. With a ...

Hi, if I understood correctly you’ve plugged in directly to the main feex from the pump. (To put it in 21st century lingo; you’ve created a power beyond port.) I think if your implement is a closed Center machine with its own control box your lift will work sort of independently from the implement....

Traditionally a fordson major leaks on the bottom of the liners and have leaking o rings. Also eaten away block material isn’t uncommon in this area.

Then I opt for the Stuart gibbard explanation. The above dexta is not a German dexta. The German tractors do have wide mudguards
