Re: Dad's REME photos
Interesting!! The one we had at Wrights as a heavy breakdown truck for lorries had a massive Rolls Royce petrol engine which did about 3 gallons to the mile. The rear wheels were chain drive and she was restricted to around 20 mph. The foreman at my first garage was a man called Johnny Black, althou...

Re: Photobucket
I would love to own our own photo hosting site, way back in the mists of time Oscar and I did discuss it but the cost is too great. We also investigated and discussed a site takeover with various parties that would have given the site more services and allowed more room for on line manuals etc. but ...

Re: Fordson super major lacking horse power
Same single bolt fixing cam shaft went through the range and could be used on earlier engines with a new front mounting plate. So there was no change between models. What could change however would be if you bought an after market camshaft and not a Ford original. If that is the case then all bets a...

Re: Photobucket
I would be a bit pessimistic about setting up our own picture hosting site. It would need much more band width and the cost would end up being born by Oscar, myself and a few others with good intentions. We tried to market a few items to raise money and give the site an income to fund "extras" but t...

Re: Fordson super major lacking horse power
Were the 150 hours done on hard work? It is possible the engine is not yet bedded in. Fords would not look at any warranty on a low powered unit until it had done between 300 and 500 hours hard work. Your engine should be between 50 and 55 hp depending on the model but that is ENGINE hp measured at ...

Photobucket seem to be changing their access policies and starting to charge for allowing you to post pictures on third party sites like ours. This is just a trial from my account.

Re: ball joint removal - drag link
As Super6954 said, you have to be very careful when ordering from after-market suppliers although, in their defence, the part you are looking at is on the Fordson Major page not the Super Major page of the parts book. Henk had some problems a few years ago with stub axles, they were sold for a E1A M...

Re: ball joint removal - drag link
The ball ends are not replaceable, you have to buy the complete drag link. Bit of a waste and never understood why they never put removable ends on the Super Major. They had to on the Dexta because of the wheel setting when they were extended but it would have been handy on the Major too.

Sorry Rick. I do not know any Fergy mechanics, most died young, worked out with all those repairs they had to keep doing or finished up in Hellesdon.  :stress: I will ask Fred next time I see him as he has better contacts. We had a number of other groups too, Peter Jay and the Jay...

Really enjoyed that Bob takes me back to my youth when I was involved with a little club in Dereham. We had people like Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, The Animals and Jimi Hendrix come to the club on a Sunday night and play. Got to meet and talk to most of them. But my favorite group of all time ...

Re: I don't understand oil wieghts...
If you order 20/50W from Morrises over the internet it will be delivered to your door in a couple of days. Good company that I have known for over 50 years. That was the only oil we used in Nuffields back in the day.
20/50W is also available from Halfords in gallon cans. That is also a good oil.

Re: I don't understand oil wieghts...
The main reason 20/30W and others were not quoted in the manuals is that they had not been invented. There were some multi grade oil but they did not come into common use until the late 1960's from my memory. I know we had a hard time getting Ford to accept Castrol Multiuse in the Ford Force r...

Re: Insurance For Tools and Equipment
It seems strange that the NFU are not interested, most farms have some tools and kit in locations other than close to the farm house. I can think of at least four farms in this village but I suppose they are businesses.
They are pushing private house insurance at the moment.

Some people!!!
Sorry, I do not know the size, should be around 3/8" with a NC thread I think.
I always wanted one of those engines for a Major but never got around to fitting one, that is the engine that should have gone in the first 5000s in 1964 in my opinion. Brilliant engine.

Re: Clutch Super Major wont loose
Sorry chaps, I would NEVER use a trolley jack under the engine to split the tractor. I have seen what happens when the jacks little wheels stop and the engine keeps moving. You are far better to use an engine crane, loader or forklift and lift from the top using a sling chain. If you have a cradle o...

We had an air start Ruston Hornsby driving the DC generator that powered the works, lathes, grinders, pillar drills and lighting were all DC. If the air cylinder was low four men had to get the cranks out, two on each side, flywheels around 6' across, and swing like mad whilst the foreman worked the...

Could be a Ford 2701 or 2711 industrial from the 1970's. Does the injection pump mount on the back of the timing cover and has it large hexagon seals around the injector pipes where they enter the head?

Re: Pull up lever behind hand brake??
It is a lock for the foot brakes. Pull it up and turn it then push the foot brakes down, they will stay down until you release the handle. Some tractors were not equipped with the transmission hand brake.

Re: looking to buy a dexta
The gearbox is 1962 so should colours should be orange wheels and blue tinwork so I would check all the other casting codes and serial number as it could be an ASP model. (All Spare Parts). That will bring the price down.

Re: Fordson new performance super major valve protrusion fig
Fords do not specify a valve protrusion figure in any of the cylinder head data. Later tractors after 1965 do say 0.08" to 0.10" if that is any help as a guide.
