Re: Bearings for primary transmission
Hi,
May be a ring to Cotswold vintage tractors is an idea. They offer fordson bearings on their website.
Do not have any personal experience with them.

Re: PTO work with a non-NP PTO
The castings break with overloading. This compressor wil hardly be able to let the tractor work I imagine. I wouldn’t have any doubts with it.

http://vieux.tracteurs.free.fr/pdf/ford ... achees.pdf Says N-1131 for 1917-1931 with a referral that the old part no was S-101. A 1931 book on that site claims s-101 as well and also states the no. F-1603 for 1917-1926.

Change filter often if in doubt how clean your engine is and use a 15w 40 all year. That is better then a straight outdated oil.

Major with hydraulic drive
In this link you’ll find some photos of the major hydraulic transmission. These are photos I’ve never seen before. Might be interesting for some guys here to see as well.

Re: Buying a Dexta special? in france
Leaking water is probably the pump. Not a difficult thing to change. Sounds all reasonable to me but I would negotiate down the price.
One or two times ether won’t kill the tractor.

Re: Buying a Dexta special? in france
Hi, This is a dexta from the years between 61-64 I think. It is a narrow version. Tinwork looks good. Personally I’d preferred a standard track width tractor. If the engine starts good from cold and the clutch and steering is ok there isn’t much to go wrong. Standard Parts are available from breaker...

Re: Rear half shafts leaking oil
Your biggest problem will probably be getting the bearing cups of the half shaft to be able to fit the new seals without damaging them. Be prepared to find grooves on the sealing surface of the shaft. If you do find them, I recommend a speedy sleeve. If you need to fit new bearings as well, you’ll n...

Hi,
May be the machine shop can make the hole a bit larger in the camshaft and make a stepped dowel.
That’s worth a try I think.

Good experience over here with lock tite and lock washers on the camshaft gear and front plate. I’d prefer to make lock tabs if I’d had the time and tools. It’s more original.

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play
I did a complete front end run away a couple of times with succes. You can save a lot of time that way. Removing front grille in the damp Dutch climate is recipe for desaster with most of the bolts breaking and leaving a hole to be drilled out.

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play
Hi, in your case I’d replace the clutch first, connect the engine back to the gearbox and then move the front axle with tombstone, radiator etc out of the way.
Then getting off the pulley should not be to difficult.

Hi, do you have breakers in Canada? Otherwise I would contact Richard pocock in the UK for a start.

Re: Timing gear noises and oil presssure - petrol engine
Hi, Fluctuating oil pressure makes the removal of the sump inspection plate sound like a good idea to clean the filter. A 10w30 would not be my choice. I use a 15w40 on mine and have heard about people tending to go for 20w50. Had much pressure issues with a diesel last year after a rebuild . The re...

Re: Toolbox mounting
From memory the shroude thermostat was introduced with the mk2 engine. As you have shutters it should be a mk1 engine. Then a normal thermostat will do.
Parts can have been mixed up off course in the past.

Raised PTO
Hi, At the moment I’m working on my ‘53 FMD. Replacing some bearings in the rear axle, replacing oil seals etc. I’m planning to fit the raised pto I’ve lying around to it. It’s the old style box with the right gearing. So far so good. Now the question arise, from when was the raised pto available. I...
