Very smart. Nice to see sunshine too, our festive season has been dull, grey and wet.
Note the bent radius rod. Causes the steering to pull one way, most noticeable on a good road.

Re: New user, new project
A misfiring engine is not desirable, I think we’d accept. However, i cannot agree with the comments above concerning the governor ‘ overloading’ one cylinder in an effort to maintain the desired engine speed. The manifold vacuum does not fluctuate even if one cylinder is not firing, therefore the ra...

Re: New user, new project
While I can agree that a misfiring engine may cause unwanted unbalanced loading to the crank, I must disagree with the suggestion that a misfiring engine speeds up and down as a result. As mentioned earlier, the governor reacts to maintain a steady engine speed, and is not affected by the condition ...

Re: Starting an engine
As mentioned, these engines won’t start without functioning glowplugs. Since they’re wired in series, if one fails that’s it. While cranking, does the exhaust smoke? If so, you probably have fuel being injected. If not, bleed it again; two points on the pump, then loosen one or two injector lines an...

Take off the side plate and check that the rack is sliding freely, without any tight spots. A dousing from an oil can may help.

Re: Over running clutch
While your combination may work well, there’s always the possibility of problems should you need to stop suddenly. With the mower acting as a large flywheel, dipping the clutch won’t stop forward travel and you could easily find yourself halfway over a hedge or through a wall before all motion ceases.

Re: Use of Red Diesel After 1 April 2022
Regarding taxation class, I understand that red diesel is permitted in tractors ‘taxed as an agricultural machine’. A neighbour was stopped by the Revenue while carrying a unusual (but legal) load. Investigations showed that the road tax had expired, therefore not taxed as an agricultural machine. R...

Look at the mig welding photos, and you’ll see weld repairs to the front face of the timing cover, where engine coolant has eroded the alloy.
If I remember correctly, there should be a copper gasket behind the water pump, protecting the alloy from such attack.

Sounds like you’re thinking of Select-o-speed, early 4/500 only. With the difficult column change it was pot luck as to which gear engaged, whatever you had selected. Later ones were fine, though I can’t remember the lever layout.
