Re: frothy water
Yes that is my understanding too Pavel, but how much difference dirty / seized bolts make compared too cleaned and oiled threads I have no idea, 10%, 50%, 100% ??. In my view the problem is entirely different to torqueing down a newly fitted head since this particular problem involves torquing down ...

Re: frothy water
Would you do this with the engine hot, warm or cold Pavel ? I tend to do a new gasket warm but that would be with all threads cleaned, I'd probably go for hot with an old gasket and unknown thread condition. I've often wondered what the difference in actual clamping pressure there might be as the bo...

Not sure about access to fixings but you would need the fan and waterpump out as a bare minimum for space, possibly the dynamo as well.

Re: Front axle bolts/sump pin removal
Plenty of heat on the threads, they seem to grow together, yet I have known some who had problems with the loosening, not my experience! and drill, tap and pull out with a slide hammer would be my approach on the pin.

Re: E27N Major Workshop Manual ??
Thanks both, have already got a copy of the parts book Mathius (.se website) Not sure what differences there might be between the standard & Major governors Aaron but I'll suggest he ask about in case anyone local has one and if it looks to contain what he is after he can buy one. Sounds like a gap ...

E27N Major Workshop Manual ??
Asking for a friend who has an E27N with governor problems, not covered in the owner / operator manual and the parts views are helpful but not adequate for his trying to establish if parts are correct etc. Does anyone know if there was the equivalent of the E1A workshop manual produced for the E27N ...

Re: FSM ENGINE PROBLEM
Have you checked the rocker box breather pipe back to the air intake filter is free and working ? often overlooked cause of excess oil in exhaust and can result in oil or slime escaping through the block breather. Failing that maybe it's a valve stem sealing problem.

My industrial standard with an E27N engine ran hot on the 28 sec / petrol mix so I used to add a pint of red diesel to a tankful, not much difference to heating oil but it ran cooler and smelled more like TVO

Re: engine overhaul
It will slightly reduce the head volume and bring the injector tips closer to the piston crowns by the skimmed amount, probably diabolically major surgery on a Formula 1 engine but the volume is a drop in the ocean compared to the carbon Mathius has probably carved out of the head before skimming :t...

Re: 62 fordson power major
Check that your PRV valve is working, not rusted or jammed solid - this limits the maximum pressure the pump will face, like everything else on the Major (in modern thinking!) they were over engineered but maybe not to the extent of being dead headed ! if the gears themselves are not badly worn ther...

Looks nice and clean Mathius, the com especially - I think the front bearing on mine is on the way out, perhaps it is objecting to being made to generate again after 20 or so years with a dead regulator

I think the need for land wheels on implements stopped with the introduction of 'intelligent' draft control having the active top link like the supers. Disk or knife coulters go back to horse drawn days - how you decide what suits your land I don't think I've read in any tractor handbook, the sort o...

It doesn't help that starter and stopper are on opposite sides of the tractor if you are not sitting on it  One thing Ferguson addressed on the LGM (there must have been a history even then of 'in gear' startups back then) with the gear lever needing to be in a neutral position before the solen...

I have tied a cord to the engine stop lever when my son was learning to drive, 'just in case' I've also devised a spring loaded stop for when I get round to driving my saw bench from the pulley boss with a prop shaft, pull the 'kill' cord, a peg comes out and a big spring snaps it shut. Delighted to...

Re: Generator gone through by rebiuld shop. Do I need to Fla
Any shop worth dealing with ought to ensure output is OK by running up on a test rig after replacing bearings and brushes, refit and try it, you can always flash it in situ if needed

Hi Prickle, As far as the bearing races slack in the housings, a thorough degrease and a few drops of Loctite or other make Bearing fit or bearing retainer will take care of those, anything rattling slack you can centralise with 3 strips of shim before using the magic liquid, beer or soda cans can p...

Re: Hydraulic issues
When you think of a Major heaving up a five ton load on a tipping trailer they were not fast but they got there, make no sense to not lift the weight, sounds to me as if you have a pressure loss or serious restriction somewhere. Cr@p in the inlet filter to pump starving oil Pump / seals worn Oring o...

Re: Hydraulic issues
Once the TPL arms have lifted up, the knocker cylinder should follow, unless your pump or PRV are leaking pressure badly or oil flow to the knocker is restricted, first thing is to check that with a gauge on the trailer pipe connector, which I presume is where you are taking your oil from, also wort...

Re: Lost thread about cylinder de-glazing w sandpaper
Don't recall seeing that thread but I'd be very wary putting sand or emery paper down a bore regardless of how it is supported and driven, well bonded wet and dry paper perhaps but those 2 & 3 legged honing stone jobs are safer, even so I always oil above the rings and grease above that to block ent...
