Re: Grandpas Major

I got the head back last week, they had to shave .008 off to clean it up, slapped everything back together with new head bolts. went through the injectors and found one with a needle that was sticky, Marc cleaned it up and set the cracking pressure on all fore. We started it up with little to no iss...

Re: Super major 1960 water problems

I doubt that the pump is bad but the thermostat may be an issue. Check that the radiator is full and that the engine is not air locked, loosen up the fitting on the head for the temp gauge, there should be no air, just fluid. If it spurts out air before it gets fluid your thermostat may not have a b...

Re: PTO Trouble

Its not unusual to shear the rivets on the clutch plate that attach the center splined hub, I would check the obvious things first, is it engaging in gear, PTO shaft not broken, etc. if all is OK, split her apart and check out the clutch to see what is going on.

Re: 6D Power Major

Several years ago I worked with Dennis, a young gentleman that was born and raised in Ireland and had only been in the US for a few weeks. We were at the end of a plant shutdown, had been working way to many hours most of the week, and we had finally got the plant back up and running late at night a...

We must have run over somthing as one of the front tires kept going flat so while I had it out yesterday I patched the tube and then had to take it out for a road test!

Re: Power Major Dashboard

Glad to help. And yes it was miserably cold this last winter, very little snow and single digit or below 0 temps for months straight. It really drove the frost down, there were water lines down 4' that were freezing. we didn't even have enough snow to run the snowmobiles except for on the rivers, I ...

Re: Karma and a Super Six

One of my books rated the Super Six at 97 hp@2000 rpm, so that was where I set it, but now that its broke in and running better its probably closer to 2200. as the tac is non functional I had checked it with a hand held tac, so all I can tell you is we were running full throttle while plowing. As fa...

Re: Karma and a Super Six

OK so I kinda lost track of where I left of, so I'll try to just hit a few things. We got it back together and running with a fresh rebuilt injection pump I had stumbled across real cheap, I didn't realize how good of a deal I got until I opened up the old one and saw how bad it was. the first thing...

Re: Grandpas Major

So Marc did pull "Walter" last summer and did OK with him but we found the head gasket was quite bad so we did not do much else with him last year. A few weeks ago Mike pulled Walter in the shop and tore him down, apart from the head gasket everything else looked good. we plan on putting him back to...

Re: Karma and a Super Six

Earlier in the day Marc had the plow down deep in some clay and got her up on the back wheels......not exactly the way four wheel drives are designed to work, and we actually have 200lb's on each front tire. I really thought I had a shot at a bonnet a few weeks ago, there was one for sale on ebay bu...

Hi guys, I've been a little slacking on keeping everyone updated on the progress, I'll try to get some pic's posted later of how things went together. Hi Rob, welcome aboard! I'm Just going to give you some of my thoughts here, first off I would never recommend adding stopleak to anything. The majority of these products merely soften up and swell the seals, then after a while they dry back out, shrink and get brittle....and leak worse.... and now ...

Re: What connects here?

You would think so. Ether that or an inspection hole but I don't know what you would be inspecting in that area, its just looking down at the top of the cam box. Now I'm curios about the pigtail drain line, is it just broke off or was it purposely turned up to maintain a higher oil level in the cam ...

Henk, I have seen a few of these before, I'm thinking they were for industrial motors. I see the injection pump drive is the silent type also.

Steven, where is the voltage regulator and starter solenoid mounted on yours? I am back to work on mine and it hand been changed over to a one wire alternator and the new style starter with the solenoid, I'm assuming the solenoid is in the stock location but I don't see any bracket on the air cleane...
