Re: FSM gear box double lipped seal installation

I will keep that in mind Shepp !
The oil seems to leak down to about level with the upper gearshaft where it stabelizes,so perhaps as Sandy says it is the main seal thats the most leakey?

Re: Correct injector pump coupe fibre pad?

You could cut off the bent bracket , then with the bolt in place weld the bracket back on.
Things are easy to fix ,at a distance😄

Re: Electrical Problem- 1962 Super Major

A short in the vercinity of the light switch?
Or a faulty start-relay (solenoid) drawing too much current and overloading the wire-loom?
Too bad about the new loom, hope the Major is working again soon😀

Chris
The disc or pad Sandy has found will be right for an early super like yours with the vacum governer.
As soon as you are ready to fit the new disc one of the experts on fuel injektion gear will be glad to guide you👍

Re: 1954 FMD - Time to fix the white smoke!

Another thing you could try is retarding the injection timing on the pump coupling one scribe-line at a time followed by test running. Be sure to make a note of where you started!! If this makes things worse ,go back to your startingpoint and try advancing instead.Never more than one line at a time!...

Re: What is the correct engine rpm for 540 pto rpm ?

Good Morning,
1200 turns on the motor will give 540 on your pto, which in case of heavy loading on the bush hog Will labour your tractor (it does my 61 )
If i were you I would set about 1300-1350 revs without load, the motor will pull much easier!

Re: Suspected Fuel Pump trouble

One more thing,
You must not undo the two nuts on the clutch, these are for ajusting timing. Just pull the the pump out out of its place when all bolts are removed.

Re: Suspected Fuel Pump trouble

Ed
As Henk says it would be a good idear to mark the two halves of the pump clutch before removal.
Then when the time comes to reinstall the pump, simply ensemble the clutch so the marks line up again.

Re: Suspected Fuel Pump trouble

Yes it must move easy, when you take the cover off the rack should be pulled to one side by the governor.Grab it with 2 fingers and pull it to the other side, let go and it should snap back where it was.Try it at both full throttle and idle setting, the rack must not stick. All this with engine shut d...

If you have mecanical pump try removeing the side cover held by 2 nuts, check that the pump rack moves smoothly back and forth. If not spray liberally whith aerosol lubricant and free it up.
Dont get any dirt into pump. :D

Re: Major restoration

I have worked on 2 supers and always found the injectors covered with black oil on removal,I dont think it means there is anything wrong with them. It is normal for a major to smoke if it has been ilde for a long time. I have found the major engine surprisingly tolerant of malajustjment and lack of ...
