I remember when the British Army changed over to detergent oils. There were hundreds of engine failures as the carbon deposits had kept seals etc working. Along comes detergent oil and cleans out the crud and failures everywhere. Changing a tank engine is a BIG job!

Terry You don't say where you are in the US but I guess it applies to anywhere where it gets very cold that you must have good condition cold starting kit. Yes the heater plug should obviously get hot but don't forget that the fuel hand pump must work and that the foot valve at the end of the fuel l...

Crippled Dexta
Hi folk Just a small request for help from this great community. Driving up the local roads I noticed that my wheels has started to have a large wobble which was quite unnerving. Crept home and examined steering and front axle and noticed the RH radius rod had some slack in it. Closer examination re...

Generator Polarisation
Hi Folk A word of caution! You are all assuming that the polarisation is achieved by flashing the Field terminal from the +ve battery post. This is OK for 99.99% of generators BUT! I was asked many years ago whilst in the Army to take a look at a young soldiers car as he had blown up 3 generators an...

Burma Disaster Rotary Assistance
Hi Folk Completly off topic but what a disaster the Burma cyclone is. I am in the Rotary club and we busy packing our club water-survival-boxes ready to be sent as soon as possible to Burma. Take a look at what Rotarians do to help others: http://www.chelwood-rotary.com/ . Take the link to our boxes...

Gosh an AEC! My first Army posting after training was to a Royal Artillery regiment which was equipped with Bofors 40/70 Anti Aircraft guns, FCE7 Fire control Radar sets and Meadows 271/2KVA generators. This was in 1966 and these were still in service until replaced with Leyland 16t gun tractors. Th...

Hi Try jacking up the front end to take some of the weight off the steering, axles etc and then try rocking each tyre forward and back and also through the steering wheel. It's how the weight holds things tight so you can't move things by handbut you go down the road and it all starts to wobble. Did...

Hi guys When my E27n headlightd were well and truly rotted I found that motorcyle headlights fitted. Remove the glass from inside the rims by removing the clips and then replace with the motor cycle assembly. This also gave me dipped headlights as a bonus. I believe that although perfect restoration...

When I owned a Pet/TVO E27N it would do a similar thing. I got it down to rubbish in the bottom of the fuel tank resricting the fuel flow. Try putting a small amount of petrol in the TVO tank (first drain the TVO!) and try starting it switched to the TVO side, if it runs OK then its a fuel restricti...

Dexta wiring
Hi Folk I have just finished rewiring my Dexta, this includes an aternator, indicators, rear lights and trailer socket. I'll take some pictures and upload them also. For my tractor pictures and other things take a look at the URl below. If it is of any assistance to anyone I drew the wiring diagram ...

A bit about me!
Thought I would add a little history of myself. Interested in old tractors and engine from maintaining generators whilst in the British Army repairing Radio equipment for 22 years. Have owned two E27N's (TVO and L4 diesel), a Major and a Dexta (Current) and a TEA20 thing. Through my friendship with ...

Cold Starting a Dexta - A novel solution!
Saw this Dexta at Hullavington a couple of years ago and the owner explained how it worked. Lite up a gas blowlamp, open the tap that is plumbed into the inlet manifold, point the flame into the cup and start it!! http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/JerryColes/Tractor%20Pictures/DSCF0871.jpg T...
