Re: Oils for Engine Hydraulics and Gearbox
Bearing in mind the fact that most Majors lose gearbox oil into the back end, it may be wise to use the same grade in both.

Re: My First Tractor
Before any dismantling and reconditioning of parts, make sure that fuel is flowing freely throughout the system.
The symptoms could well indicate fuel starvation.

Re: power loader possible?
The engine provides some 140+ lb ft of torque, the std. pulley bolt will come off if you use a socket. More relevant would be how much torque is required to drive the pump. When the splines slipped on my digger pump (rendering machine immovable) my emergency repair was to pack the coupling with a f...

Re: Looking for a new or used atomizer
That’s why the tap’s necessary. If left for any length of time, diesel will also get past the rings and start to dilute the sump oil.
As long as the fuel level is below the jet on the inlet manifold you should be ok, or simply turn off the fuel tap while parked up.

Re: Looking for a new or used atomizer
My Dexta had the ‘ball with a spring’ fitting originally. It leaked diesel into the sump while parked, and was replaced years ago with the on/off brass tap fitting. Yes, it puts out a jet of fuel when the primer is pressed.

A friends much-used New Holland 717 forager has lost some teeth from the gearbox. Spares are a bit thin on the ground, can anyone help?

Taking the side panel off the pump will allow you to check that the rack is free to travel fore and aft. Could well be stuck.

Re: double wheels
You’ll need a set of male/female adaptor nuts. For example 5585 from Agriline. Use these to secure the original wheels, then a second set, reversed. Standard wheels, nothing extra.
As for the width, you’d probably be much narrower than many big modern tractors.

Fastening the engine stop control would be easier than removing injector lines.

Re: So you're supposed to change the oil in your governor - Who knew?
Sounds like it’s fine. I am though intrigued to see recommendations to change the oil in the injection pump. The Dexta Instruction Book makes no mention of this in the service schedule, indeed the only reference states ‘The fuel injection pump should not require attention between engine overhauls...’

Re: Crack in Axle Bracket
Hi, Had exactly this once on a new major. What indid is rotate the axle 180 degrees. So the broken lug moved from rear bottom to top front. Regards emiel. Now that’s my sort of repair! How about a steel strap of some sort, below the bracket, linking the two mudguard bolts? That would support the da...

Re: Hydraulics
I’m guessing that you have a separate spool valve block to operate the lift/tilt. This is fed from the external services (knob out). If you have ‘position control’ selected, and linkage fully up, then there’ll be no flow. Push in knob and lower linkage slightly, pull out knob and lift main control f...

Re: Lambourn cab heater
There was certainly no standard heater fitted. People were tough in those days, and always carried a big coat.
That said, I did fit a heater to a seventies Leyland, possibly from an Austin Cambridge. It provided the occasional waft of warm air if the wind was favourable.

‘Henry Ford, Cork’. Strange to see that on Power Major literature. Was the Irish factory still functioning?
