Re: Unloading valve

Thanks Brian, when I first reworked the valve chest and unloading valve it released at 2000psi but as soon as I put my box blade on the unloading valve did not seem to release correctly. I have been watching the psi with the gauge I mounted and will back off with the control lever when psi reaches 2...

Re: Unloading valve

Thanks whirly, I looked at the Major yesterday and valve chest looks the same. The seat is off the Major so I''m going to take the top off the unloading valve and see what it looks like.
Thanks again.

Unloading valve

Hello to all. As some on here know after my Power Major had sit for 10 years I was able to get her going again with the help of this site. http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/5851/dsc06451f.th.jpg Not knowing too much about the hydraulics :scratchhead: I cracked my pump on first use  http://img26....

Re: 3 PtH weight limit?

Hi whirly, I have the gauge set so I can look down and see it when it hits the 2000psi range and I also listen to the pump, once you have cracked one  you learn. Main thing is making sure your unloading valve is working which I believe mine is sticking again so I believe I may take the one out ...

Re: Raised pto leak

Thanks super, I ran the raised pto yesterday,no leaking, but without any load so we'll see. I did notice that it seemed to shift a lot smoother now, the old seal was in bad shape. Thanks again for your help.

Re: 3 PtH weight limit?

Thanks all for the info. ... I have a preasue gauage now mounted to the valve chest so I can keep a watch on the preasure in the system. Sounds like a great idea Gman  Where exactly did you mount the pressure gauge on your Power Major :?: A picture would be very instructive. Hi whirly,...

Re: Raised pto leak

Thanks to all for the help. The old seal was enclosed in metal almost like a bearing. New seal in and she is back together. All seems to run fine. :D I'll have to get out and run her with bush hog to see if the leak is taken care of.
Good luck to all.

Re: 3 PtH weight limit?

I don't know what the weight limit is in pounds. The unloading valve should be set to 2000-2200 psi, so it should pop or the front wheels should come off the ground before you break anything. But I did manage to break a lift arm on my Dexta when I picked up the front of an Allis Chalmers 5040. As J...

Re: Raised pto leak

Thanks JC, thought this was part of old seal but wanted to make sure before I destroyed it. Thanks to all for the advice and info. Got to make a gasket for the ring and hopefully later today she will be back together. Again thanks very much.

Re: Raised pto leak

Thanks super. The upper shaft and bearings are in great shape, they are separate from the retainer and seal. Only the seal is in the retainer and it is in bad shape but just don't see how it would press out. Like you it is starting to rain so got to get tools inside. The part I have has the correct ...

Re: Raised pto leak

Help needed on removing the seal. The seal is inside the retainer and I don't see any clips to release to get it out or anyway to press it or pull it out with the way the retainer is made around the seal. I don't want to damage the retainer by not knowing for sure how the seal should be removed. I'l...

I just looked at repair manual and the way I read it once I remove retainer the seal will be there either on the gear shaft or maybe in retainer, should not even have to take upper gear shaft out. Of course most of my projects always seems to have something go wrong, just last week doing my brakes o...

Re: 1953 vs. 1960 Parts

Hi Jeff, I recently did a post on how to load pics on here, I believe it was a thread on pump timing. If you do not have a raised pto on your Major and there is one with the parts tractor get it, it is one of the best things to have. Also if the hydraulic pump is in the parts tractor I would go afte...

Re: Fordson Power Major Pump Timeing?

Hi Jack, I had a stuck rack in my pump, there is a post on here. Once I fixed it I found now I can tell if the rack is stuck by moving the fuel control lever at the pump by hand and you can feel the vacumn spring on the other end of the rack if it is not stuck. I was afraid of getting dirt in my pum...
