Re: Looking for new hydraulic pump for fordson super major

Hope the replacement pump does the trick. To replace the hydraulic pump you'll need to drain the rear axle oil (10 gal) and lift the top cover. Be very careful to lift the top cover evenly for the first inch to avoid cracking the feed pipe bracket. Then simply remove the hydraulic pump from the pede...

Re: seal H/L shifter

Try tightening the bolt, Super Billy's one was loose, but it now shifts firmly, as the bolt was a bit loose. If that doesn't do it, you can try opening the gap in the clamping part or rebuilding the shaft, but the latter is a big job.

Re: Looking for new hydraulic pump for fordson super major

I can't find a pump anymore, Agriline used to sell the Super hydraulic pump, but they appear to have stopped doing so. Get a used pump and try it, there's a good chance something will be better in the replacement one. While it's off, inspect the drive gear on the PTO, you might well find its key is ...

Re: seal H/L shifter

Hi Leeroy, The early H/L lever was attached by a pin, this always worked its way loose. You could try using a slightly bigger pin, but this won't be permanent. The lever in the pic in the first post is the later type, clamped on with a bolt. If it's kept tightened enough it stays put. Don't weld it ...

Rear lamp

Hi all, In the early days Majors used the E27N rear lamp, then this one appeared https://i.postimg.cc/fWGFQPHk/2020-J18-1.jpg This one is slightly modified. Some time near 1955-56, the socket was changed to the rubber type now readily available. Anyone have any idea of the approximate dates of this ...

Re: Parts for Super Major

I don't know anything about parts in America, British suppliers are your best bet for most things, as parts are widely available in Britain. Do make sure you know what you need and if the supplier is offering what you need; we've often found the listing suggests one thing and when the bits arrive th...

Re: Bottom end overhaul

I wouldn't recommend even trying to start the engine if it's knocking, as it will get much worse very quickly, and you might find yourself stranded just as you're finishing, Super Billy got stranded as he was returning the implement to its owners and had to be towed back home.

I've been looking at our check chains and I think I'll post some pics of them as I think part of Billy's old RH one might be original. These are of Billy's old RH one. https://i.postimg.cc/rwp3M8wq/2020-J17-1.jpg I think the eye-bolt, link and lock nut are original https://i.postimg.cc/m2mpd0NJ/2020...

Re: Thread stripped on fuel bleeder

The bolt should have a fibre washer to seal it, if you can't tighten it enough to get a seal you should try some rubber before you use PTFE as it tends to be messy, and the one thing the injector pump will not tolerate is dirt.

My idea was to improve this site. https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/ffcn%20web/ffcn-leden/ffcn_leden_techinfo/liftparts-major.html There are a few details that needed pointing out to have it as a reference site. Basically this is about the check chain brackets, but I saw a small detail in the last ...

Re: Bottom end overhaul

Hi Mike, This is sounding all too familiar, eventually the engine will refuse to start. This is what happened to Super Billy; it turned out to be a big end failure, and his crank and con-rod are write-offs. A large amount of swarf came with the oil, but this might not show up in your case. Our knock...

Just found another pic (an old one) of the bracket (Heavy duty type). https://i.postimg.cc/ZK41MPrV/1998F-13.jpg Note the bitsa check chain, the location of the rear axle casting code and the wrong lower link (the original one's ball comes out, hence the large washers visible in other pics of Billy)...

I think that would be a good idea.
In the first film in Ford & Fordson on film Vol.4, you see an adjusting nut stamped E1ADKN in a similar way as the lifting rod fork and the top link bracket.

Re: FFCN linkage detail

Not quite. All Super brackets have four holes, but they can mount the two hole shackles in two positions without having the bracket fowling the short position. The part number for it is a DDN. The bracket on the FFCN page doesn't provide clearance for a two position shackle in the short position, th...

Hi all, After looking around I 've been incapable of finding pictures of all the variants of check chain and bracket. Sorry about not mentioning Mr. MacGregor (the JCB), but as he's post Fordson Major (1975 3CII) he's in a different category. He actually came from Roy Bridge, the cab I'm afraid isn't as good as it should be but it's all our fault for leaving him outside. At least the exhaust is covered with a Campb...

Hi all, Sorry to introduce a problem on the FFCN. The linkage page classifies this https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/ffcn%20web/ffcn-leden/ffcn_leden_techinfo/technische_info_image/hefonderdelen_major/PICT0509.JPG as a Super Major bracket. Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe

Hi Charlie, It sounds like no. 2 plunger and barrel assembly is leaking badly and no. 1 is going that way; a drop from time to time is normal, but if you can see it it's worn. You'll need to overhaul the pump. The seal is by lapping in the plunger and barrel; this is why if you read any manual it wi...

We used to have a leveller on our large cultivator, in the form of a large log. https://i.postimg.cc/GhVwLmwf/2004-K13-2.jpg We rarely used it for levelling, more as ballast, until it broke up, rotten. Single phase alternating current centrifugal pump, with four pumping elements.
The electrics were ruined by the fall and then by sitting outside for 12 years. We never tested them as it gave us the excuse to use the belt pulley.
