Re: 6 cyl starter motor
Thanks Steven,
Are you saying that the mark 1 six and the 4 starters are Identicle? same windings and armature?
I did finally get to the werecers and they had a recondidioned one from a place that closed down some years ago, hopefully that will do the trick!

Re: Fordson Power steering
Thank you some pictures would be great! Not many Fordsons over here now compared to the thousands there used to be, nearly every Farmer seemed to have one, it was that or a Massey, but I never had much time for them, the one my uncle had used heaps of fuel compared to the Fordson and broke down heap...

Re: Fordson Power steering
Thanks JC, I have seen them on Agriline, but was trying to keep cost down, I was trying to get a pump that looks something original that doesn't look tacked on. I don't have the drag link but as I have to modify a drag link anyway that will be no extra work, The assist ram I was hoping to get from a...

Fordson Power steering
Hi all, Can anyone tell me the company that made the Power steering pumps and the model, perhaps they could be aquired from another piece of Machinery? and does anyone make the brackets? I am wondering if the 6cyl Fordson Super Major I am building will need power steering or not with a heavier engin...

Re: 6 cyl sump
Hi, Mike here again, the pick ups I have here vary between the 4 and the 6 in two ways firstly the bends are different because of the longer pump and secondly my sump well is in the middle, perhaps the 6cyl sump with the well at the front might be closer? I do not wish to use a Aluminum sump with th...

Thanks Mike

Re: 6 cyl starter motor
Thanks Garani,
I had thought that a 4cyl Fordson starter would struggle to have the torque required to do the job.

6 cyl starter motor
Hello all, I am considering which is the best way to set up a starter motor for the 6cyl Super Major I am building. I have the Bosch one from the Combine with the electric solinoid but this doesn't really allow the tool box to be fitted along side, as the solinoid protrudes out. I have not seen the ...

Re: 6 cyl sump
Hello again, my sump at the beginning of this topic, is from a Class combine, just as a reminder. It is also worth remembering that any casting based on an original 4cyl design requires allowance for a different location oil pick up location and needs to be based on the Super Major sump, not the ear...

Re: 6 cyl sump
Hello, I am considering which way to go with my sump also, at this stage I want to raise the rear portion of the sump and add webs to mount the A frame pin, ( this pin is larger for the Super Major models ) http://i56.tinypic.com/utvnk.jpg I don't know why these pictures are so large, they are getti...

Re: 6 cylinder Fordson project West Australia
Hi Mike here again, picked up the other tractor, hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will be able to start going through everthing and sorting out what goes where. Those John Deere guards are comming off as one of the first jobs! Also was fortunate to pick up a replacement front casting at anoth...

6 cylinder Fordson project West Australia
Hi Everyone, I have thought of building a 6cyl Fordson ever since I saw the industrail engines in the Industry I worked in 20 years ago. Recently I by accident came across an engine from a Class combine ( Ford 6cyl ) and I have been working towards gathering enough parts to build a 6cyl Fordson. I h...

Re: hi everyone engine rebuild questions
Best to see if your engine can be rebuilt first, Rebuild kits are available easily here in Australia but that won,t help you much, I suggest you try Agriline or your local Ford New Holland Dealership. These engines are getting pretty old now ( like me ) and the bottom liner "O" ring groves do corrod...

Re: power major aux hydraulics modifications
Hi all, Auxillary two way hydraulics on our Australian wheat belt tractors used a slightly different set up, A commercially made block is inserted between the housing and the cover plate it incorperates a spool with the handle along side of the existing lift arm handle. I would think to save costs t...

Re: dating a suermajor
Hi,
I also would like to know which type of Injection pump was the original for my 1962 Super major engine number 1592338
22 F 3 I think it was? ( It currently has a Simms but perhaps it has been changed? )
Thanks Mike

Re: This and that about Ford 590E engines.
Thanks for the reply, hope to be getting another Fordson for parts next week, just need a splined hydraulic top shaft and lift arm and a few other bits then. Ours here down under, run 18.4 28" tyres and large wheel weights, think I might have to drain out the water though before I swap wheels about!...

Re: This and that about Ford 590E engines.
Hi All, sounds like you are having lots of fun! Can I please ask a couple of technical questions? I have two 510 E engines and a couple of weeks ago bought a poor condition Super Major to fit one to. The Super Major is the early one with the red wheel centres and the 6cyl engines are 3 E 22 and L 28...

Re: new performance super head on a super?
Hi, I agree care needs to be taken when swapping either Heads or rocker shafts, with our models here in Australia, the models with the throttle through the block all had the decompression lever and none from 1959 on had them. At some point in 1959 the block changed to the one with the throttle shaft...
