These engine were used also in trucks as well as other applications. In the truck version, (and in a car) it is driven using the accerator, but a tractor is more static revs, with the governer changing the revs to suit the load at hand. I have 2x Major engines, 1 with mechanical governer, and the ot...

I got the head back yesterday and the crank is on its way to get a regrind. Pulled the front transmission out and was pleasantly surprised to find the mouse house and rust resulted in only minor surface rust on the gears, all the bearings, races, and shafts look good. Although the hand brake has be...

This might not solve your problem, but from "past experience" :eyes: with temperature guage sender units, I would suggest purchasing a genuine CNH/New Holland sender unit, part number C4AH10884A.See if that makes a difference  TSG. Is this because the genuine Ford sender is matced to the g...

Ford 5000 generater pulley
Hi all
Anybody with a Ford 5000 6x, with the generator with the tacho drive, can you please measure the OD size of the pulley.
Just want to check what size pulley she should have, now that I have just about got my tacho going. Only waiting on the cable to arrive.

I would just go with 2 or 3mm on both ends of 1 half of the seal.(normally the sump half)Fixersteve wrote:Cheers kev, have had the oil seals soaking and will make sure I've got 3mm protruding, is that on the sump seal or both parts??

I'm sure you know what you're doing, but make sure crank seal is soaked in oil, and you leave 1/8 inch protruding proir to reinstalling sump

Re: New Fordson Performance super Major owner
Fixersteve Good to see you got the photos sorted. The sump is secured by 21 bolts.10 on the LHS, and 11 on the RHS. The eleventh bolt is recessed and not visable from the side. It is at the front of the sump, next to the front plate. Keep searching until you find it. I did my rear crank seal just a ...

As I don’t have a steady rest for my big lathe I took an old piston, countersunk a center point in it, stuffed it in the sleeve up to one of the compression rings and then chucked the whole thing in the lathe with a live center in the end of the piston. Lathe Terminology... Even though you have a ball bearing center in the tail stock, it is still considered a, "Dead Center." The "Live Center" would be in the head of the lathe and would most often used with a faceplate and dog to turn between centers. The terms are throw backs from the old days whe...

Re: what year motor?
oil pressure is about 25# checked with a couple of gages. So, if you've got an old sump, you've either got a PRV in the timing cover, or a very worn engine or oil pump. Do you have any reasons to be concerned about the oil pressure i.e. noisey engine or knocking? Is that 25 psi with oil cold or hot...

Re: what year motor?
Why do you want to know about the releif valve for? Do you have a problem with oil pressure or lack of oil pressure. If the engine has been changed, but you still have the old sump, then you may not have a PRV, which may mean that your oil pressure is up around 150psi. Ask me how how know :scr...
