It means that it's highly unlikely that you will find one that is from a new performance super major, ie "rocking horse manure"(something you won't find since rocking horses don't cr*p)... Sorry for the discouraging answer, you would stand a better chance if you were to find a complete tractor for s...

Is yours a petrol dexta? ;) The "coil" on your ignition switch(I presume it's that you're worried about) simply means on a diesel tractor that all equipment that's only supposed to work with the ignition switch in "on" goes there...("coil" is easier to have written on the backside of the connector p...

With the help of a small vacuum pump driven off the crankshaft you could even get yourself some servo assisted brakes(nick off the brake force modulators from two older volvos) ;)

Hello all. The shifter on my power major has always turned one way or the other if you do not shift it straight forward, backwards or sideways. Always figured there was some pin worn or fell out of place. Gerald On the "extra" one I got from dad's cousins power major the pin had almost fallen out an...

People usually change to alternators because of either of the following(or all) 1. Their generator is no longer charging the battery(usually this is because of regulator failure) 2. They've added one million 100w working lights on the tractor and wonder why they just "glow" slightly 3. They have a w...

Sorry for jacking the thread, but do the hand brake equipment from a live drive box fit inside a standard box? My handbrake has been removed because someone tried to run the tractor with it engaged(and broke off the two pins), they then fished the parts out through the hi/lo shifter hole and the hol...

In that case friday was certainly all feathers  Tomorrow will be a better day, an extra gear lever to fix up before I assemble it and two 750mm tall pieces of 10mm thick, 50mm wide flat steel to strengthen the lower drag links(they won't bend sideways that way) and hopefully the paint on my "ne...

Anyone feel like a good laugh? It's coming right up if you read through this post(although I didn't laugh at the time) ;) This Friday I had decided that I'd fix up the bolts for the lower drag links of the 3pt lift on my super major, one of them was worn and "floppy" and was suspiciously oily(cracke...

Sorry, I do not have any other pictures but it is really a simple job. Remove the gear lever and housing. Nothing to fall out. Remove the circlip and spring from the gear lever. Remove gear lever knob. Gear lever will then come out of the housing. Check the locating pin in the side of the housing. ...

Did your leak stop as you replaced the O-ring? Mine did the same earlier this week, I changed all the O-rings but one(the same as yours) and of course the one I didn't swap developed a leak, fortunately that one can be replaced easily without removing the valve chest from the lift housing ;)

I'm with JC. That is a pretty rare problem though, usually the bottom wears off the gear lever and it comes out of the socket. see my repair job in pictures. Brian I found a post by you about welding on the gear lever on the old forum, you don't have a few more pictures of that do you? My shifter i...

You have a New Performance Super Major. They stopped putting the serial number on the badge in the late 1950's. The bonnet badges are export versions of the later badges. Usually the New Performance had a chrome nose badge saying Super Major and a wheatsheaf, then on the bonnet at the back, a stick...

All I can answer on is that the constructor plate on my Super Major -62 doesn't have the chassis number on it either... The seat looks like a re-constructed super major "comfort seat"(about as comfortable as a rock in the woods) ;)

Quite some bunch of information there, thank you for the replies :)

I'd like to add just one more question, the round plate where the oil filler cap is on the E1A gearbox, is it similar enough with the E27N one with the shifter lever so one could put a E27N shifter on a E1A major?

Don't see many modern turbo 6 cylinders with a power rating of 1400 hp. That is what was going through a Major gearbox and back end when the tractor was fitted with a Rolls Royce Merlin a few years ago. :D Hehe... Still, if such an engine is fitted the tractor is mostly for show or pulling, not ord...
