Re: an E27N with a difference !
Hi Dave, I don't think that tractor has been built for any practical purpose. As you said the gearbox although over engineered would probably strugle with the extra torque of the engine. The rear wheels are not big enough to take the horsepower without spinning. It would probably drink the fuel like...

Glad to hear that you got it sorted. It sounds like it is quite a bit different from the normal flexible coupling that only have four holes. No wonder you couldn't find a replacement.

Re: Gearbox bearing and seal questions
Hi Barry, I finally decided to pull the whole box apart, separated the gearbox off the diff housing and pulled everything out. It was the right decision because there was nothing left of the output shaft seal and the top N-7065-B bearing would not come out without the output shaft being removed. Tha...

Re: Temperature Sender
Hi, Senders need to be matched to gauges. Even though the sender may look the same it could have a completely different resistance vs temperature curve. The other possibility is that the temperature gauge is the type that needs a voltage stabilizer as part of it's circuit and the voltage stabilizer ...

Hi Brian, I am sorry to hear that you have not been feeling well, and so glad that you are feeling a bit better now. It is a right royal pain when you are not feeling well and you get behind in all the things you want to do. Hopefully it is all smooth sailing up to your trip now. I hope that Mary an...

Re: Battery
Hi curtsat15, It depends on what type of deep cycle battery it is that you have. If it is a gell type battery an alternator will not charge it properly as they generally require voltages that are higher than normal wet cell batteries to avoid sulphating up the plates. I am not sure of the exact volt...

Re: Help me identify this Fordson
my first guess was Selene as it has no slip clutch on the drive shaft, but the drivshaft is not painted like it has been replaced, and I think I can see the shifter housing on the top of the transfer case. Sifter on the top-Roadless, shifter on the back-Selene. I'd guess Roadless. Pat Hi Pat, The s...

Hi, I am no expert on the tractor but I can say that the front axle is made from a GMC CCKW 2 1/2 ton 6x6 WW2 US army truck. There are still lots of new old stock parts for rebuilding these axles still around. Any body who wrecks old US army trucks will have parts. All the internal axle parts are st...

Re: crawler back end oil
Hi, EP90 should not be used in any Fordson back end as it has additives that harm seals and bushes used in them. Early Fordsons used SAE90 that does not have the extreme pressure additives. There is a link at the top of the page that lists the recomended oils for Fordsons. http://www.fordsontractorp...

Re: Fordson Major E27N
Hi Oliver, Have you looked for any of the casting codes yet? They are a letter-number-letter code. The easiest to find is the one on the side of the gearbox near where the shifter assembly bolts on. The other clue as to the age is what steering wheel is on it? Is it a three spoke alloy wheel or a fo...

Thank you Emiel, Hello Frank, he second problem I have is that the output shaft does not seem to want to come out of the gearbox housing. Gearbox bearing and seal questions
Hi all, I am finally getting around to fixing the back end of my P6. I found a complete back end with a good diff and a special ratio "RED SPOT" gearbox as a replacement for the very badly rusted and pitted diff I am running around with now. I would like to use the gearbox but I need to fit new bear...

Re: Fordson Major E27N
Hi Oliver, I can't give much advice as to what things to look out for on a running tractor as all of mine started out life properly dead. I can say that the belt pulley is dead easy to fix and the Hydaulic Power Lift is not bad to fix either. If it has done a lot of belt work you may need to fit new...

Hi, If you are getting a small amount of movement you are on the home straight. All you will need now is lots of pentrating oil and patience. Above all else do not try to rush the job as they are easy to break. One word of advice is if you can get to the threads inside the tank clean them with a wir...

Hi Barry, Sorry I am not able to see what the engine the cam came out of was like as this cam is a used part that has been in storage for many years. I realy wanted to know if the 0140013 replacement cam had the oil grooves or not, as I am not convinced about this cam's origins. It does seem that Pe...

Re: Perkins P6TA camshafts
Hi, That is great news. It is strange that you say that the new cam only uses 3 screws for the sprocket. Mine has 6 holes on the flange and I know from the parts list that the bolts are supposed to be different. Since the bearings are not a problem I will have to do some further investigation about ...

Perkins P6TA camshafts
Hello all you perkins P6 experts. I have a curly one for you. The P6 I am rebuilding has a shot cam. The cam gallery was full of water and about 4 of the lobes now have craters that make the moon look smoother than a billiard ball. I have since purchased a replacement that is supposed to be a perkin...

Hi,
I have the feeling they may be Allis Chalmers rear wheel centers. I did a quick image search on the web and I found this picture of a 1945 Allis Chalmers C. http://www.butchstractorbarn.com/pictures/c.jpg
It looks right to me.
Regards, Frank.

Re: pto bolts leak oil
Hi John,
The most common cause of the leak you have is people using bolts that are too long which breaks out the end of the bolt hole when they are done up. When new the bolt holes do not go all the way through into the oil and as such can't leak.

Hi Mike, Welcome to the board, that sounds like a fun project you are taking on. All the variants of the E27N have the same gearbox flange. The Perkins engines had adaptor plates and sumps cast to match the tractor for the conversions. The Flange is circular as far as I can tell so it has a chance o...

Re: Dexta oil consumption
Hi Koenr, Personally I would ask the question, how many days hard work worth of oil can I buy for the cost of changing the valve guides. In my experience older engines will always use a little oil. Changing the valve guides may help, but then again it may not if the bores were glazed with the wrong ...

Hi Gordon, If the engine is old and worn I would not waste my time fitting a turbo. You will find that putting more air in will only increase the blow by and if you try to increase boost and fuel to try to compensate exhaust temperatures will go through the roof and start melting things. If you are ...

Hi Alistair, You are right the live drive clutch is much weaker than the single clutch. Live drive is very marginal with a six cylinder conversion. Be careful though it is not easy to change from live drive to single clutch so make sure you get a non live drive tractor to convert. You don't mention ...
