Re: The Pub 2017

Got to be a bit careful when you complain about national issues like malt Bob.  We have a large maltings here at a place called Great Ryburgh, during the season a constant stream of lorries loaded with barley leave for Scotland, once there the trailers are dropped off and the ones taken u...

Re: My First Tractor

Ever since the early 1950's Fordson Major E1A range and the Dexta range have been painted Empire Blue and Fordson Orange in Europe up until 1963 when the colours changed to a slightly lighter blue and grey wheels and rear mudguards. Tractors exported to the US however were painted grey tin work and ...

Re: My First Tractor

From the pump and all those codes she is an original 1959 tractor built probably in July 1959. Here in Europe she would have been all Empire blue with orange wheels and silver grills. Later tractor from around 1962 were painted as your is for export to the US and were also badged Ford 2000. With a t...

Re: My First Tractor

Welcome to the board, I tried to answer some of your questions on YT but for some reason the posts would not all show up and the pictures would not display. We do work with YT on here as they send us any queries they have problems with on Fordson tractors. Neither I nor Oscar can answer the "shark" ...

Re: Back End-Gearbox

Cannot think what your problem is, there is only one set of splines and they usually go straight in. I used to put the tractor in gear and turn the engine by the fan or by a screwdriver in the timing plate, it only has to move the width of a spline to line up. With your rods in position it should go...

Re: Back End-Gearbox

Moving the rear axle away makes the job more difficult as the splines rotate as you move it forward. Put the gearbox into gear and see if you can turn it to help line up. Have you got the PTO shaft out of the tractor or are you trying to line that up as well?

Re: Does anyone know anything about David in Wales?

David has not been on the board since September 2012 and he had been pretty active up until then. He was involved in writing a book on the Ford dealer Turneys, (I think that was the name). He also posted pictures of tractors and his home area on Yesterdays Tractors but has not done that for some tim...

Re: P-M, Getting lined up correctly after a split.

Put the tractor in gear and turn the engine. Put the PTO in gear an turn the shaft. If you put a long bolt in either side and just hold the two halves together as you rock and turn this also works well. Do not put any pressure on the bolts, just use them to hold things as you rock and turn.

Re: The Pub 2017

Rick, I totally understand and send our condolences. My best friend was a grey and white fluffy tom cat about 12 years old. He would be with me everywhere, sitting on my knees and being a right nuisance. He was with me out in the yard this last Spring when he took it into his head to run straight ou...

Re: fordson standard electric start

There are instructions on posting pictures in the headings on this forum. It is pretty simple, even I can do it. :D :D

You must have a picture web account with someone like Photobucket, load your pictures up to there and then include the (IMG) format from the list beside your picture in your post.

Re: Shrouded thermostat

The design of the shroud was to restrict water circulating via the by-pass and force it all to go to the radiator. Shrouded thermostats have not been available since the mid to late 1970's and the new design is not really suitable for these engines. IMHO. I live in a fairly temperate area and my sol...

Re: Going ploughing

Next job is potatoes Adrian, we are off to Australia in early September so want them all up and in storage by then.

Don't know what sort of job this one will do until I have tried it out. The last owner tried to use it on a Tafe tractor and bodged things up to try and get it to work.

Re: Oil out the exhaust

Leave the engine alone, what it needs is hard work as soon as possible otherwise you will be overhauling it again shortly. The rings will not bed in doing light work and all diesels need to be thrashed kindly or they will blow oil out of the exhaust. As soon as Dextas were put on the beet hoe and dr...

Help 2wanted for poor Ford 4000

Can someone help save this poor tractor from drowning?

Sympathy to all our New Zealand friends who, like our Aussie mates have had a horrific year with the weather.

Re: Going ploughing

Finally got my "new" TS102 up in the yard to work on, need to sort out the turnover mechanism and change a couple of skimmers. That was my first mistake. Got the turnover mechanism sorted with ease and a spare spring from a Dexta hydraulic lift I just happened to have laying around. When I went to p...

Re: FPM oil seal.

Hi Richard, the Ford number for the seal that fits inside the PTO input shaft was E1ADDN 7052 A. Your best bet would be the CNH web site. We have had this problem in the past and I do not think the after-market parts people realise there is a seal in there. The one that fits in the housing over the ...

Re: Going ploughing

Exhaust is the perfect size Henk, don't forget, on a petrol Dexta the power goes out of the rear wheels and onto the land, not out of the exhaust pipe!   The idea of a small exhaust was to reduce the noise as the tractor was aimed at working around hospitals and schools on ground car...

There really was a three cylinder petrol Perkins engine which should have been used in the petrol Dexta. MF used it in their petrol 135. Les sent me pictures of one in Canada a few years ago.

Re: Going ploughing

No, the exhaust was much lower on the petrol originally and a smaller bore. This one comes from a two piece Fergy 35 one, just the bottom half and is much nearer to the original. When I first got her it was the rear silencer and pipe from a Cortina. Now the most important question: WHERE IS THIS PET...

That is a proper field to have for a ploughing match. None of this dead level, no trash and gardening with a spade to make it look perfect. :run: You may want to check your wheel settings/furrow width but all in all a good first attempt in difficult conditions. I have spent last weekend teaching Ann...

Re: Back End-Gearbox

Your problem is a common one with a Major, it can be the seal on the large gear that will mean splitting the tractor at the rear section or it could be the seal in the PTO housing at the bottom of the gearbox. You could also do what most of us do with the same problem, connect a pipe to the trailer ...

Re: fordson standard electric start

This is something I have asked about over the years as I too drove a Model N with electric start. An article appeared in the Ford and Fordson Magazine saying they came from the factory with electric start in 1932 but when I queried it, the answer I got back was the author had been told a story by th...
