Re: Knock in No1

Seems you have done everything possible, just a couple of comments, not trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs: 1. Slackening off the injector pipe causes the knock to disappear. That may not be the injector that is causing the problem, you have changed the injector and the knock remains. A big...

Re: 4wd "conversion"

On the DeLuxe Select-O-Speed tractors there was the option of a ground drive PTO that, with the wheel drive disconnected, would take the PTO shaft speed up to engine speed, say, 2200 rpm. Fords told us that, on a ground drive lime spreader, behind an SOS 4000, with the wheel drive disconnected, the ...

Re: Handbrake adjustment

As Shepp has said you cannot service the handbrake through the pulley plate, you can however adjust it through the gear selector plate, it is a fiddle but I have done it. I understand that you can remove the plates through the top with the High/Low selector removed but I have never done it, it was a...

More on the Oz Trip

It is not all Ford and Fordson or other tractors when we go to Australia you will be shocked to find out. We do visit other sites of interest like wineries, natural wonders, cities and wild life. We tend to get away from the cities and into the country and out onto the Murray River if given half a c...

Yes it was one of my neighbors who lives opposite but his farm is about a mile away, have not heard anything today but hope it was not the pig shed that went up. rather exciting yesterday afternoon what with all 15 fire engines racing around the corner opposite.

Re: Petrol engine in Dexta

Most of the engine parts are the same as the FE35/TE20/MF135. The parts where you will run into problems are the starter ring gear, the flywheel is much larger than the Fergy ones and even bigger than the diesel Dexta. I had to get one from Canada for mine and I then picked another up in Australia. ...

Re: "FL" cylinder heads and Minimec pumps!

Shepp, That service letter is an original Ford one, as far as I am concerned there were no "spuriouse" service letters sent out by other than Ford or if there was I have not seen one. You may be right about the meaning of "FL", I have no information on this however I do know that Ford often brought ...

What is the weather like there now? We were staying in Toura, Lakes Entrance and on Phillip Island in October and it was still cold. Had warmed up a bit by the time we got to Robinvale in December, 35 degrees on one day!

Did you get to the 100 Year Celebrations at Deniliquin?

Re: "FL" cylinder heads and Minimec pumps!

Not so much of a myth as all that Shepp. :D :D :D Service Letter No. 7. August 1963. With the introduction of the new Performance Super Major, some redesigning of the Cylinder Head has taken place around the inlet ports with the object of improving the Induction Breathing. This is the only Head and ...

Re: Injector pump timing way off

The engine flywheel marks line up on 23 degrees in two places, TDC No. 1 and TDC No. 4 so when fitting the pump you have to be certain it is on No. 1. You can check this by the coupling clamp bolt and seeing if it is below the auxiliary drive shaft or by checking that the valves on No. 4 cylinder ar...

Re: Super np steering

This problem has been going on for many years and still the aftermarket people refuse to listen when people complain. There are two types of Fordson Major, the E27N from 1945 to 1951 and the E1A type from 1951 to 1964. The front axles were mainly a fixed version on the early E27N's and adjustable on...

Re: My Super major doesn't seem to rev very high

Check the air cleaner and hoses. Try taking the air cleaner hose off then carefully rev up and see what happens to the revs. If it revs OK you may have a blocked air cleaner wire filter up inside the air cleaner body.

Re: Tractor serial number begin and end with star

There should be a casting code in the area of the dynamo. It will start 3, 4 or possibly 5 or 6 if it is indeed an Ebro engine built on the Super Major assembly line after it was shipped to Spain in mid 1965. As far as quality is concerned, Ford were happy to put their name on spare parts built by E...

Just pull it, they come out easily usually or take out the ring of bolts that hold it to the axle housing and take the whole lot out. Nothing will fall off if you do one side at a time.
