Re: Removal of bonnet latch rivets, latches need replacing.

Not an easy job, as these are fitted hot. I've seen people use pop rivets but it looks terrible. See if you can free out the original rivets and then refit them hot, it still won't look great but better than pop rivets. I don't know if the proper rivets are still available from CNH, but they're not ...

Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.

Sounds like you've made good progress. No fuses originally, but over here many were given a 30A fuse on the wire from the solenoid to the ignition switch. What drag link do you have, as if you somehow have the early one you don't need to replace it. While you're there check the tie rod and spindles ...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

It was officially Hanomag-Barreiros for a while, and it was a bit like Ebro in many cases, making Hanomag tractors called Barreiros, but not always, as some were in-house designs or from other companies. Most cabs here are a bit like that, but the advantage of this design is that the top can come of...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

All Fordson plates have a gasket and o-rings. I didn't know the worldwide tractors were different in this sense, but as they were all new designs they would have reconsidered everything.

Not trying to dissapoint you but this is what the gasket is meant to be like. https://www.newhollandrochester.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/E189GF9.jpg Before you lift the top cover (which by the way looks like a Ford casting as do the external service plate and the flow control valve) again look a...

Re: Super Dexta Hydraulics

The top position is governed by the knock-off pin, but that happens to be about the moment the lower links touch the axle castings (with the lifting rods set at a fairly typical length), and is not adjustable. I would check the knock-off pin and set the lifting rods to the length that seems to work ...

All sounds good. You will need to retorque the head and that should help stop the leaking, but I know what you mean about it being irritating.
I wouldn't want a tachometer either.

Try a scrapy first, but if not it's part no. 353051-ES, specified as 3/4" extended square head plug, but no comments on which thread which normally means unified thread. I'll try and see if one of ours is measurable, but I can assure you that it's a tapered thread, so not easy to cut.

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

The lever needs to have its nut torqued so that at the knob (on the original lever) you need to exert 10 lbs to move it, that should stop it moving when the draught changes (assuming the cork friction disk is in not too terrible condition). Sounds like you do have several leaks, the external service...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

I wouldn't get the ram till you're sure everything is working nicely, make sure you don't let the lever stay in the raising position when using the external service valve. You could retry the pressure test with the external service valve out though as that will cause the relief valve to open (as spe...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

I'm relieved you're using the rotovator for that as the thing about stones should be less relevant but be careful just the same. I would test position control before taking the top cover off just in case, as qualitrol is really only for ploughing, and if position control is ok it willl give you bett...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

The pics are quite enough to see the numbers. the tractor number is 2T10578, so from the later half of 62 but earlier than later as I think the disk brakes were fitted in late 62. The engine number however points at a replacement, but I'm strugling to make much sense of it at the moment. The tractor...

I suggest you look at the Ford manual to start with (https://www.fordson.se/7_El_Verkstadsmanual_191-224.pdf), and come back with anything you're not clear about. The serial number would also help as there were a few small changes in this period.

The gear ratio is the same, I like the idea of an adaptor but don't start on it till you have the angle drive to check everything fits nicely. I'll try to get you some measurements but it's not easy when everything is together so they might not be as accurate as they really should be.

Now I see that you have an early Super Ebro, these were only made for a year or so, before the disk brakes and diff lock were added. I got the manuals wrong, the second one does cover the Super hydraulics but it misses the end which is here: https://www.fordson.se/6B_Hydraul_Suplement_Verkstadshandb...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

My first impression from your description is that what you have is not a Super 55, probably 48 or an Ebro Diesel (some pics would be great). The point on the RH side under the seat is not protected by the unloading valve, so be careful. I suggest you look at the unoading valve and if it seems ok the...

Great that you're running again. Unfortunately yours is too early for that, as it's only when the large threaded plug was replaced (in 53) that the hour counter became available, the tachometer was offered a bit later. You might be able to fix something up, but it could be quite difficult.

Re: Fitting tacho/hour meter

For any Major between 53 and 58 you need an angle drive unit (E1ADKN-17373B or E1ADKN-17373C), a cable (E1ADKN-17365B or E1ADKN-17365C) and the tachometer itself (E1ADKN-17360C or E1ADKN-17360D or E1ADKN-17360E or E1ADKN-17360F) together with the bracket for it (E1ADKN-17368V or E1ADKN-17368C), a cl...

I think you'll find that's what they do, as there's nothing to stop them doing it (good job fixing the other issues). Rob, both arms are identical on Dexta's and Super Major's, it's only on earlier Major hydraulics that the arms can be the wrong way round. The only thing that stops the lifting is th...

Dexta's are not ideal for front end loaders, but the Mil and Horndraulic are the two that come to mind. For operating two double acting rams (assuming you use a different loader) use the dual auxiliary valve, although they're very rare and likely expensive. The Dexta is Cat 1 so make sure your imple...
