Re: 1958 Dexta Tacho

Re: 1958 Dexta Tacho

Brian many thanks for the info but im rather confused now. I have been told from one source that I have a P3.144 Perkins conversion pack fitted, another source told me that it is a P3.144 as Dextas were never fitted with Lucas CAV injector pumps. Also another source who worked for Ford for many year...

1958 Dexta Tacho

I know that there have been previous posts about the tachos on the dexta but none of them answer what query I have and I know there is a wealth of knowledge on here which is great. My 58 Dexta that I am restoring wasnt fitted with a tacho when I got her. It is fitted with a Perkins engine with the L...

Dexta Engine Sump Strainer

Was wondering if anyone can give me information as to where I can get a new engine sump strainer for my Dexta. I ordered one from Agriline it was for a 135 (sorry to use the red word on here) but on removing my one today have found it to be different. The one I have is all in one and the strainer se...

Dexta Input Shaft

Looking for some information with regards to my 58 Dexta gearbox input shaft. Thought since i had the engine out it would be a good idea to replace the input shaft oil seal on the gearbox. It has the single clutch fitted. I noticed today before stripping off the seal housing that the input shaft has...

Re: Super dexta sleeves

Brian,
Just realised that I had put not to use loctite. Didnt check what I had written before posting as I used beads of loctite on my liners when they were pressed in. Sorry for the wrong information. As you say even though they are interference fit it is recommended to use loctite when fitting.

Re: Super dexta sleeves

Bchaney, the only way to remove the liners without damaging the block bores is to press them out with a hydraulic press. They should be unshouldered cast iron liners fitted and they are what they call interference fit. Loctite or similar should be applied when fitting. With the liners removed the bo...

Dexta Steering Box

Looking for some information please and not sure if this has been covered in previous posts. Just rebuilt my steering box. Ive had to remove all shims from left hand trumpet to remove all free play at the steering wheel. The box was totally stripped and all parts cleaned. Now that it has been rebuil...

Re: Dexta Steering Box

Thanks for the info Shawnee. Looking at the picture in the manual its self explanatory. Ive downloaded the complete manual from Stefans link. Should have done that before. Sounds like ive landed lucky with the box sitting full of water as I cleaned everything up today and all looks pretty good.

Dexta Steering Box

Looking for some advice please. Ive stripped my Dexta steering box as it was full of water and had about 90 degrees of play on the wheel before it would start steering. Surprisingly the spindles etc are in really good condition. Looks like a good clean and a shim is all that will be required.Replaci...

Re: Dexta Engine???

Thanks for the info Brian. I did see a pic of exactly the same engine as what is in my tractor for sale on e-bay but it has differnet mountings etc which is seemingly from a crane. I have access to a large press for removing the liners and also a line borer for finishing of the new ones. Wont get ro...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration

Thanks for the replies. Ive finally managed to get the engine out and stripped down as I was only home for 3 weeks this last trip and would welcome any comments on my findings. Ive found the source of the knock that it had when I bought it. Only drained about a pint of oil from the sump and found a ...

Hi Brian, many thanks for the reply and merry christmas. My engine does have the DPA rotary pump fitted. Dexta Injector PumpTiming

Ive purchased a 1958 Dexta and am busy stripping it down and restoring it hopefully back to its original glory. When I get home from Angola my next step is to get the engine out and stripped. Ive already got the head off and miked the bores which are within tolerance and no scores. Im going to strip...
