How do you (or hoe did Fordson) measure the torque using a flogging spanner? Regarding the availablity of such a size why not try next years Tractor/Steam shows or autojumbles and take a small ruler and rummage through piles of big old spanners. Some of these will only go for a few quid. I always ta...

Try your local Exhaust centre, they must have loads from the older cars. speak to the guy who is the oldest and most UK cars had brass UNF nuts. I would guess and say most people with an old nut and bolt box has one or two lurking in there.
BTW don't be surprised to see you Nyloc has melted!

Hi Nialls I had a similar problem with what is really a stock 'one size fits all (Dexta, 35 etc)' item. I got round it by using a bit of care with a 4" angle grinder and removing a portion of the offending collar area. It dosn't need much but you must remove a concentric amount as the collar rotates...

I'll take some pic's tomorrow 4 U and see if there is any identification on the parts. The rams have the characteristic aluminium collar on the seal end. I'll also measure the gap of the forloader and also the width of the bucket. I know the bucket trunnions have a double plate on them. The forloade...

Dexta fore loader bits

Hi all rather than take them down the scrapyard I have a foreloader, rams, belly plate and bits of pipework and a different bucket (this is quite clean and straight but won't fit the foreloader as the dimensions are narrower). The belly plate has been cracked and partly welded and as I have a small ...

Hi Ben If you are more interested in having a working tractor than a restoration then maybe you should be thinking about modern refinements that could make your dexta on the road a safer machine. I'm talking about indicators and brake lights for example. I rewired my dexta for an alternator installa...

Looks great, two questions for you please Ben. 1. Was the painting carried out with all that grit laying around or was that just where you took the picture as I wouldn't like the air from the spray gun raising dust to stick to the wet paint. 2. Can you give us a rough idea of the cost to rebuild and...

Just a thought Bill, did you try your local muffler shop for the nuts? I'm sure they would have had some for you as they are standard nuts and a lot of vehicles use brass nuts.

Guys Re the Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) stuff. 1. It is nasty stuff on YOU! It will dissolve flesh (memories of school days trying to get a skeleton of a stillborn calf clean). A small drop on your skin will make it go soft and slimey and then it hurts. Wash off with copious water. 2. Prolonged ...

Hi all My Dexta batery sits quite happily on a cushion of dense foam that goes from the firewall, under the battery and up the tank bulkhead plate. IMHO I think it would be down to a poorly performing lift pump where the 'head' of diesel when the tank was full was making it easy for the lift pump to pump to the FIP. As the fuel went down the fuel pressure from the tank to the lift pump reduced and so less fuel got to the FIP.

I remember my old friend Bill Froome from Reading Berks restoring a beast like this in the 90's (he was in his 80's !). I gave him a hand to loosen up the Aluminium treads, a nightmare! Hi Ben when considering a Transport box give some thought to it's size and what you will be carrying. If it's too big or too much weight then you will have light steering and that can be dangerous. I borrowed a 5ft topper and moved it with my Dexta and trying to pull away at a junction up a slope ca...

Hi While your there it may be a good idea to replace the PTO take off unit seals. I had a problem with old seals and as you have the oil drained it may be an opportunity. I've just watched the video of the big plow in Finland. WOW! BUT From a safety aspect I wouldn't go anywhere near a wire rope under tension. One thing you should check is that the valve at the end of the primer pipe is operating OK. This assembly is within the ferrule that connects the pipe to the Manifold. In there is a tiny spring and ball bearing to prevent Fuel being sucked into the manifold after starting. The primer pump must overc...

Hi I have used a product called "Slosh" here in the UK on Stationery Engine Fuel tanks. It is obtainable from several Vintage Tractor suppliers but is not cheap. Sorry Brian to be a bit pedantic but the air can be compressed and therefore absorbs the fuel pulse from the injector pump. Thats why the air must be bled out so that only the liquid (Diesel) which cannot be compressed is in the system. The pulse from the pump therefore transmits up to the fuel at th...
