Steve, When I read your first post, I thought, "He's already got a really nice Super, so this one would make a good candidate for a conversion". Then I saw the pictures. If that's the original paint, and its in as good of shape as it looks in the pictures, I think you should fix the engine and leav...

Kev, Pat You are both confirming what my head is telling me to do. I wasn't intending to cut her up. I was going to buy in two bonnets (hoods), four side rails and three sumps to do the conversion and put all the original stuff to one side. But this tractor is unmolested. I bought it sight unseen an...

New Toy, What to do?
Well the Dexta is well underway and I have been thinking of a new toy. All this talk of 590E engines had me going. I have 7 diesels in total but most have been allocated to trucks, Have 3 spare plus 4 petrols, So I have been on the lookout for a Power Major or Super Major with a blown engine for a c...

The short answer is NO. The reason your engine is tight is because you have new liners and rings. The liners have been honed and have a cross hatch file like finish. This finish is important, it "files" the rings so that they bed into the bore. While running in the rings also smooth out the hatch so...

Tom I have a number of Thames Trader trucks so I can tell you a bit about them. They fell into three categories. 1.5 ton to 3 ton. They had the 4 cylinder engines. 4 and 5 ton could be had with 4 or 6 cylinder. 7 and 7.5 ton. They all had 6 cylinder engines. The larger trucks gross weight was just u...

Roadless63, The Super Major had a triangular shaped decal at the rear of the bonnet with the word 'LIVE'. It was colored either red or orange. This disappeared when the New Performance Super Major arrived as it had a Fordson decal in approx. the same position. As Barry said. http://i127.photobucket...

One of the other problems reported was the mounting on the axle of Major wings. When fitted they leaned in to the seat and looked a bit silly. Brian Some OEM factory wings do that. I bought a mint set from inland NSW and the left one had a lean from the factory. The mount plate was welded squewif. ...

They look so much smarter with the grill in the correct silver. What made you change to the UK look? (rather than export grill and wheels). Well the UK look was what I was brought up with. The Aus wheels are too wide for a 12inch plough (18.4x28). I wanted a brand new orange wheel Super Major with ...

Yes great scenary Steven. Looking at the wheel colour on yours I note that it looks fairly subdued. Do folk make the mistake of painting with an orange that is too bright and hard? Were does the clour lie in relation to say Nuffield or Howard oranges? Brian reckons Howard Rotivator orange is close....

Re: My 62 Super Major "Errol"
Oh yes, I had to replace the fuel pipe as the original leaked. That has since been painted.
I still havn't fitted the side lights. They are painted and I should get onto it.
Just so busy these days I don't get much time to play.

I can see Steven's picture if I use my Yahoo password. What a nice Super! My guess is that the exhaust should be blue, Pete. Let's see what Brian says. Exhaust would be blue but burns off pretty quick. Some tractors even had the gear knobs blue. These where a few details that are not correct on my ...

Yes, that is exactly right Pete. Nope This is what it should look like http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p158/stevbrkr/Fordson%20Ploughing/100_3200.jpg Not that I am biased. Oh yes, the plough is a Ford Ransomes 3EPJ, Ford version of the TS59. This plough belongs to a 1953 Major. They where only m...

Ransomes Plough, what to do?
I have 3 Ford Ransomes 3 EPJ ploughs, Ford equivelent of the TS59 three furrow. One is restored and has digger bodies. Not much use but has all new shares, points and discs. Second plough has had the front frame cut and a broken board. Has two good YL bodies. Third is a good frame with a missing bod...

Henk That plough has cat 1 linkage. Looks like a Ransomes Robin used behind the Dexta. Has SCN bodies. Nice plough. Send it over here, look good behind my Super Dexta. Steve Henk I have had another look and its not a Robin. It has been modified and is hard to tell in the photos. It has provision fo...
