Brian, You have described the problem exactly, thanks for the info. The filter is the old canister type with a bolt through the middle. The seal is a flat rubber ring and yes I put a little bit of grease on it to keep it in place while I screwed the filter canister back on and yes it is an after mar...

Ford 4000 Oil Leak
Hi All, I have in my possession at the moment a Ford 4000 circa 1968. It belongs to a neighbour and I have just sorted out the electrical system for him. It has been in his shed for 5 years as it wouldn't start, turned out to be a faulty connector to the solenoid, but he had pulled the wiring apart ...

Hi All, Tractor back up and running again. I used my new overrun clutch whilst cutting the grass at the weekend and couldn't believe how much easier it was to use, wish I'd got one long ago. It certainly stops the problem of the mower trying to drive the tractor into the fence, and makes it much eas...

Broken Clutch Plate
Hi All, I've broken my Dexta   Last weekend I was merrily cutting the grass with the 3 blade mower on the back, it was a beautiful sunny day and I was thinking "what could be better than sitting here in the sun on a Dexta doing a nice simple job" then it suddenly came to a halt, the mower ...

Huzey, I would have thought that the Major would handle the rotovator easily. One thing I found while doing my bit was that if the ground was too wet the soil would build up and stick between the blades, this almost killed the Dexta and stopped the rotovator digging down. I went over my ploughed pat...

Rotovating
Hi All, Last year I managed to rescue an old Howard 60" Selectatilth rotovator that was destined for the scrap heap. It was seized solid and wouldn't turn, so when I took the end casing off I found that the top bearing on the chain drive side had welded itself solid due to lack of oil in the chain c...

French Steam Fair
Hi All, Just been looking through some photos and came across these from a visit to a French steam fair in the Haute Loire 2 years ago. We were parked up at a small village, the name of which escapes me right now, and the following day came across this, just like an agricultural show really, there w...

Hi All, Woke up this morning to a 4 inch covering of snow, luckily the grandkids were staying over so took them out for some sledging and snowman building. It was the first time the youngest had encountered snow and he was a bit confused by it all. Anyway they had a great time, and so did I. http://...

Brian, Thanks for info. I also had a problem getting the bearing off the shaft. I heated it and heated it and still it wouldn't move. Ended up cutting in lengthwise with a grinder and then chiselled it open. Do you know what the oil levels should be in the gearbox and the chain casing. There doesn't...

Howard Rotovator Spares
Hi All, Just got my hands on an old Howard rotovator, it's a 60" Selectatilth, but the last owner ran it without oil in the chain casing and has almost melted the top bearing. The gearbox has survived and does everything it should, the bottom bearing in the chain casing seems ok, but the oil seal be...

On the subject of the seat, my dexta has exactly the same seat as Stefan's and I was wondering if it was a replacement from something else or an original part, seems now I'm not the only one. My one isn't a European model as it has been in Aberdeenshire all it's life. It would be a bit of a coincide...

Hi All, I'm looking at the pictures in Stefan's post where the tractors have almost red coloured grilles, and that's the colour the grilles are on my dexta, not orange. It's a 1958 model with the nameplate down the centre of the grilles and the headlights on the side of the bonnet, and is pretty muc...

Hi All, Think I've managed to suss out the photo thing so here goes again - by the way, sorry to say that the 4wd isn't mine, just managed to get some pics of it at a local ploughing match. The 2wd drive one is mine though, it's a 1958 model and spent all it's life in Aberdeenshire. http://farm3.sta...

Tattie Planting
Hi All, Managed to get a lift arm to replace my broken one from Agriline. It doesn't match the original, but has got me back out and working again. We've had a beautiful day here in the north east of Scotland so started planting my tatties (potatoes), thought you might like to share some of the pics...
