Re: New electrical harness.

Hi I've been down to my field (between rain showers!) to take a look at the wiring on my Dexta's. I have four but one is just a rolling chassis. My runner has my headlight loom run from under the fuel tank by the battery tray up past the Air filter and then follows the fuel return line across the to...

Here's a picture of the adapter I used when I first ran my new engine: https://drive.google.com/file/d/133e8Sa ... sp=sharing There are other pictures of interest to Dexta owners there also.

Re: New electrical harness.

I did submit a post some years ago on modernising your Dexta wiring to accommodate Indicators, Brake lights, a Trailer socket and an Alternator if it's any help. Not a difficult job and if your on the road makes you a bit safer in today's driving world.

Re: Fordson Dexta Cast Iron or Cast Steel?

Having found an article via Google it might be that while some parts are alloy steel cast, grey iron is used in Cylinder heads and engine blocks! I guess a simple test would be to touch the piece in question and note the pattern/appearance of the sparks. This is an interesting and useful guide https...

Re: Fordson Dexta Cast Iron or Cast Steel?

I very much doubt that Fordson used Cast Iron in their tractors. It's too brittle, doesn't take threading and is liable to crack. With cast steel you can add the required alloys to give it the characteristics you want for different parts. Steel is after all Iron that has controlled amounts of carbon...

Mine was restored over 15 years ago and still earns it's keep. Out today with my Logsplitter on to clear a pile of log rings that were getting wet so that's the start of next winters log pile. Started the other day in -2 deg, the battery needed some assistance but it fired up ok. I have a Trailer, T...

Hi and welcome to a large group of very knowledgeable people who are only too willing to help :) You haven't said what your end intention for the tractor will be. Is it for day to day use such as ploughing, trailer work etc of is it going to be a full restoration back to original? Your wiring looks ...

Re: Very useful Lucas Electrical Information

The company I once worked for made large electronic machines with miles of wireing inside. These looms were all secured by nylon "tiewraps" and as they were zipped up the installers cut off the tail with a Stanley knife. This had been the practice for years. Along comes a new H&S guy who promptly ba...

Similar! I had Ifor Williams P6e and a P7e trailers stolen from my field in the summer. My insurers wen't interested as I didn't have a lock on them. As you say it takes a matter of a few minutes for a knowledgeable thief to cut off a hitch lock or wheel clamp. They cut through the wire rope restrai...

Re: Dexta not charging

When I rewired my Dexta and changed it to -ve earth as I was using an electronic indicator unit and an Alternator. IMHO if you change to -ve earth with a regulator then the only thing you have to do is flash the generator the same way, using a "live" feed from your battery to spark the field winding...

If you are really desperate try running some solder around the olives once you have them firm on the pipe. The soft solder might give you the seal you want. Are the male threads cracked?

Re: Dexta not charging

You may have put 12v onto the field windings which will give a very high voltage out on the D line. That's what may have blown your fuse. Have you ensured that there is a good earth for the battery? Under a light load you may have a connection, can you crank over the engine? Measure the battery volt...

Re the wedge sticking in the wood, I have a short length of wood (9" x 3" x 3") which is attached by a length of cord so that it hangs close to the wedge. If the wedge gets stuck then placing the length between the top of the log and the underside of the ram and raising the wedge so that the wood fo...

Re: Compression Test

My liners etc came from Agriline many years ago and it's still going strong!!
Remember that the engine must be worked hard in the early days otherwise you get glazed bores. Used mine hard on a topper after a rebuild and it is fine 10+ years later.
