Re: mid mounted mower - almost there
Nice to see it working Mathias. Bit faster ground speed may help clearing as already mentioned. Also when the guards get polished up it'll clear better. That grass being short isn't helping either. If in longer stuff, a parting bar on a swath board will help as well. Congrats on a nice job done!! RE...

Thanks for that, Adrian! :D Faultless it ain't, but I am Very pleased you like it! Rick, I had more photos, but deleted all the URL stuff when pictures didn't show up. How do I attach them, or make them viewable as you did the last one? (Bearing in mind I'm more 19th C than 21st....) Thanks again! O...

Re: Going ploughing
This has been an excellent thread, and a tonic when I get wound up about all the stupid in the world! As we have other tractors ploughing, I'm attempting to attach a pic or two of a bit of ploughing in Western Canada. My dad taught me to plough back home in Yorkshire, but hadn't used a trailed ploug...

Re: mid mounted mower - almost there
Very nice to see this re-built mower. Now I want to see it cutting! Being from the north of England, we still called the con-rod a pitman. I still do as well, being 'frozen in time" here in the western Canada. I make pitmans of ash or hickory here. (Have a 1909 New Ideal Giant sickle mower, o...

Re: Power major hydraulics suddenly quit working
Gas -line antifreeze would work, it absorbs I think 10 times its own weight in water.
What's the proper name?...can't think of it at present! Methyl Hydrate, that's the stuff.
Would it hurt anything if a cup -full was dumped in the hydraulic oil???

Thanks for the replies, all. I'll let him know. May even have one myself, but it's on a rear end I never got home yet. Adrian, By some coincidence, I just got a bottle of antifreeze, and it Was Famous Grouse. (The other stuff you mention is a bit sweet and sticky for my taste....more of a liqueur ) ...

Hyd spilt colar?
Morning gents, A pal back home is looking for the split collar that secures the hyd. feed pipe, where it comes up to the top cover. I have a photo but can't seem to post it direct from my comp. Any ideas where he may find one? Appears someone worked on it for him and didn't put the collar back in, a...

Re: Going ploughing
Adrian,
I pull the 5 furrow with a Landini 105. Have pulled it with a JD 3130 or an old 40-10 as well.
Makes a nice job, and it Is blue!
Would Really like a Ransomes though....been a long time since I had one!

Re: Going ploughing
Grand looking ploughing job, Adrian!
My old Oliver trailed plough does a good job, but with its 5 furrows it needs an 8-yard headland! (Four times 'round)
Best regards,
Richard.

Good morning Super,
I don't know what size nut would be required, but I put a longer bar through mine, and weighted one end to stop it turning.
This way, it can still be adjusted without breaking a nut loose.
Just a suggestion.
Richard.

Thanks for the replies, Fenhayman and Mathias,
I might just cut a rubber seal if I can't sort it otherwise. Mind, the tools don't rust in that oily toolbox!
Thanks again chaps,
Richard.

Reason for oil leaking from oil bath of air cleaner?
Gents, My old FPM drips oil from the oil bath of the air claner. Cleaned said filter and filled it to the correct level. Still drips out all over the tool box and such. Any ideas? Old girl has been getting a beating just lately, brush -mowing thistles that should have been done ages ago. Still, she ...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???
Billy, If it Is a diaphragm problem, it could have been damaged putting it in. It's sometimes a tight fit, getting the circlip back in that holds it in place. You can check it without taking it out, but either way, taking out the diaphragm is quite easy, and is separate from the "rocket science" sid...

Hello Bob. Does your name come from that little strip in the paper, of same name?....the one about the sheepdog? My dad had a high opinion of the Cock Pheasant, though we never owned one. We had a Bamford "wuffler" and it did a decent job . When they came out, we got a PZ Haybob, and it was a grand ...

Re: HIGH IDLE WHITE SMOKE...???
Billy,
To me it sounds like you should check your governor lines for leaks. If they suck air, you will get high revs and lots of smoke.
I had a line crack a while back and it did that.
Other thing can be a hole in the governor diaphragm.
Good luck!
Richard.

Re: Uncontrollable high revs & black smoke
Another thing to look for, is a leak on one of pneumatic governor lines.. If a line is sucking air, it will cause tractor to run flat out. One of mine developed a crack, and did that.
Good luck!

Re: P-M, Getting lined up correctly after a split.
Got it sorted, but don't know how exactly. It's still wired as it was, but it starts now instead of just the solenoid click. Maybe it got some shock treatment when I inadvertently touched the fuel tank and hot side of the battery at same time with jumper cables! Not satisfactory I know. Only other t...

Re: P-M, Getting lined up correctly after a split.
No fourth terminal on this one Bob. Don't know what's up. Tried it again with an extra earth onto the back of the fastening bracket, and no joy. The large connectors to the battery and from solenoid to the starter feel a little warm after I've tried it, but nothing else. Been pulling the guts out of...

Re: P-M, Getting lined up correctly after a split.
Thanks for that, Bob. Have to think that one through, as this solenoid only has 3 terminals, the two heavy battery terminals and the small one for the switch. I wonder if I run an extra earth from the mounting screw to the frame, if that would work? I'll let you know how I come on with it Bob. Cheer...

Re: P-M, Getting lined up correctly after a split.
Now then Rick, Odd set-back? Naaa. well, yes I think! Got a solenoid today, stuck it on and nothing. cleaned terminals and nothing. Somehow no juice coming through the solenoid, but live at the battery side. Meddled and messed with it, and with a booster -cable across, it sparks and the starter turn...

Re: Going ploughing
Looking Very good Adrian! BTW, I'd forgotten how badly things can rust over there! Your check -chains look like they came off the bottom of the sea. :-) Things we dig up here after 40 years don't look as pitted as that normally. Mind, I have been here 32 years now, so plenty of time to forget.
