EPIC mouldboard confusion
Sorting my PM plough out for the Spring and found that the mouldboard front lower edges are really past it. Looked at the Westlake plough parts diagram for Epic bodies and thought I had found two new mouldboards. (Swallowed hard and coughed up!). Today I want out to put the new boards on only to fin...

Re: New plough - anybody know what it is? FR PM ?
Neat and sweet ploughing out there!!!! Looking at your pics, it looks like the ground is moist. Reminds me of the time (several months ago) when I tried to disc our field with our ford 5000 and our offset disc harrow, with the ground WET after it rained the night before. That is why I thi...

Re: Epic mouldboards wanted for a Ransomes PM
Just had one of my mouldboards repaired and both are pretty thin on the front lower edge, so I thought I would see if anyone has a couple of good ones they want rid of? I am pretty sure the boards are Epic 41K (see photos). I can't find any markings on them but one of the points is labelled as a 72...

New project - from a plough to a snow plough
Just bought the remains of a 3 furrow PM plough for very little on fleabay (frame only, no bodies). Picking it up tomorrow with the idea of removing the inner and outer arms and mounting a snow plough on the centre arm, like a yard scraper. So far just an idea. Whether it's ready for Spring depends ...

Re: New plough - anybody know what it is? FR PM ?
I think the under-slung exhaust was standard until at least 1954. I drove an identical 54 Major towing an Allis Chalmers allcrop 60 bagger combine on harvests from 1957 (when I was 11) until 1962 (when I joined the army). I don't recall fumes being a problem, Ferguson seem to have offered an under-s...

No, but I got a definite intention to see where all that diesel smoke is coming from (Engine rebuild kit recently, so probably time to service 50 year old injectors and pump!).fenhayman wrote:Did you get a headache from that under slung exhaust?

Re: New plough - anybody know what it is? FR PM ?
Tidy work, especially for EPIC. Your bodies, should have these part nos; if not may have some repro parts, which is not a prob. http://www.westlakeploughparts.co.uk/160368-ransomes-epic-body-mouldboard-plough-parts.html http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5505 Many thanks. ...

Re: New plough - anybody know what it is? FR PM ?
A while since I bought the plough, so, prompted by a visit to a local ploughing match on Sunday, decided it was high time to use it in anger. A friendly local farmer gave me a 4 acre field of very heavy clay soil to deal with and I finished it today. Marking out worked well and both plough and1953 M...

cleaning the outside of a radiator?
Now my 1953 FM has a nice new engine kit she is still running a bit warm, and I notice the matrix is full of bits of paint and half a centuries dust. I suspect it is also quite fragile after 60 years. Does anyone have any views on the best way to go about cleaning without damaging the matrix? Or wou...

Re: 1953 Major engine rebuild
I'd agree, Robert. The reason the Major is worth restoring is that once done, you've got a machine that is useful. And it's the usefulness, all encapsulated in a bit of kit that post renovation owes you probably £2k, that means that the Major is worth having around. You can paint it and show it, an...

If you want to keep it original Droitwitch auto electrics will rebuild it for not a lot of money at all, I think mine cost about £40.

Re: 1953 Major engine rebuild
I think you are right about that Adrian. Mind you, the massive elderly John Deere behind my Major is so heavily built I can see that doing another 100! I wonder how many of the electronically and mechanically complex tractors being built today will last half as long as either of these two old stagers.

1953 Major engine rebuild
Just been down to visit my Major in the local engineers workshop. A couple of months ago the tractor went in for a service (1st since I bought her) and we found a slight blow on the head gasket, which explained the slightly high engine running temperature. It seems common sense to fit a full engine ...

Re: Still! Trying to identify a 4000
Brian; Very many thanks, that's really helpful. We have found an ancient tax disc and the DVLA have confirmed that the (very badly oiled) disc appears to show a number that is registered as a 1965 Ford tractor. He then asked me to find the VIN (?) to confirm the identity, he wrote down the number 80...

Trying to identify a 4000
We are trying to identify what we think is an early 4000 but having real trouble with the numbers (On the top horizontal flat bit just behind the starter motor) It looks like " 5F106" then "G56" then (very poorly hand cut) "5*2549853". Help! Does this mean anything to anybody?? The engine block is y...

Re: Rebuilding a trailer buck?
Trailer now completed. Side rails in oak, complete new floor, sides and ends repaired and all painted. Chassis straightened and strenghtened by local agricultural engineer. Wheel bearings checked and two replaced. One new tyre. Overall cost under £400, and should be good for another 50 years. http:/...

Honkless horn
My 53 FMD now back from the engineer's and in not bad order with the brakes and charging circuit now operational, and a report that not much needs doing apart from a new head gasket needed at some time in the future. So. I thought I would have a go at fixing the horn, (An original Clear Hooters item...

I am taking my FM and appropriate trailer to the 3 Counties Show at the end of this month. If any other members are going then do feel free to say "hello". I am usually looking for an excuse to visit the bacon sandwich and tea stall!

Problems with an E1A air filter throwing oil
I took my Major in to the local agricultural engineer for a general look over and to set up the charging circuit and fix a non working brake, prior to running her into the 3 counties tractor show at the end of the month. It turns out he did all his early work with a Fordson agancy and knows these tr...
