Re: 590E engine head problems
I would replace parts for all cylinders if you need to replace one, other than that I would probably go for the kit. As for the oil pump I would make some measurements of clearances to see what it looks like before deciding (although Ford never specified anything I would suggest that the clearances ...

Re: Hydraulic control issues
I see what you mean but it doesn't seem to be an issue in these hydraulic systems as you can have the top cover off many times and it will recover in only a few seconds every time.

Re: Stripped Clutch Disk Splines
The PTO input shaft (live clutch only) will come out easily, but the main input shaft needs the bell housing to come off.

Re: 590E engine head problems
It all really depends on what you're going to do, as if you're not going to give it heavy loads the original clutch will be fine, but under heavy loads it will likely suffer. Even the original live clutch is pretty heavy, which means this new one is heavier. The NP raised PTO is pretty rare.

Re: 590E engine head problems
Kits are made for the Perkins engines and Perkins derived engine as fitted in the Dexta to convert them from rope seal to conventional oil seal, but it is a completely different set up to the Ford engine with a separate oil seal/rope holder, and a conversion for the Ford engine I do not think is po...

For pics see this: https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5024&p=53955#p53955 Sounds like you'll need new liners, make sure you get the right ones (only two available, but one of them will certainly fit, they are as Shepp pointed out spigoted ones only). There are no instructi...

Re: 590E engine head problems
Unfortunately they seem to be very difficult to find, at one stage I thought CNH had some but we've never got round to finding that out yet. Other than that there are no new ones around.

Re: 590E engine head problems
Head failures are generally from incorrect coolant (corrosion and freezing, not common but very possible), I would suspect insufficient head torque or liner protrusion first, the valves are less likely to be related. If not then look for a crack in the head or the liner (although it's rare in the li...

Re: Stripped Clutch Disk Splines
I can't really answer a lot here, but the disk alignment tool should be easy enough to make (not available new), you can also use an input shaft if that's easier. Most aftermarket suppliers have the other parts, although there can be several problems with some fitting properly due to parts not being...

Re: Paint codes
If you want to get it mixed up just get a good bit of original for them to match the pot to. There are some codes on the forum but can't remember what for exactly. When we got some Agriline paint years ago the colour matches Billy and Davie exactly, but the shade did change with batches, the correct...

Re: Minimec timing mark missing
I wouldn't expect the compression to be a problem, just try adjusting the timing till the running is good. As for smoke you'll only get rid of it with hard work. If there's a cylinder that consistently fails to run see how the injector is working, but I suspect once given suitable work it will settl...

Re: Minimec timing mark missing
The timing should be 21ºBTDC. Is the pointer missing (above the coupling)? If so align the flywheel anyway and see where the timing mark is in reference to the pump, it should be below the pointer mounting bolt. When doing this ensure you have no.1 cylinder on compression and the coupling clamp bolt...

Re: Recovering old batteries
Unfortunately there aren't many updates, the only one that's back in use is the one you've already seen. I haven't been able to measure the cell voltages on our batteries (only the full battery voltage) but I would love to. Try charging just that cell (at just over 2.1V, not at battery voltage as th...

Re: Brake drum seal
There are two seals in the bull pinion, the outer one can be replaced in situ but the inner one will require dismantling the bull pinion, ensure you don't disturb the diff carrier when removing it, otherwise all you need to remove is the rear of the footplate and take the whole lot off and dismantle...

That's where it was, I didn't remember it having the manual, so that's even better. Also a good parts book with 62-64 monthly serial numbers there too.

Re: Dexta bottom hose rubbing the fan belt
I would suspect a change by the repro companies, they often say there's a new design Major air hose but they then make it to specs for later Ebro tractors causing the hose to get damaged by the bonnet (see this: https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8634 ), and then when you ...

Re: 1963 FSM front wheel spokes
Unfortunately (as always) not everything is what it seems, as some parts did have their correct part no., a good example being the E27N era front wheels (they correctly have E27N-1015A) or the throttle lever (original design) correctly has E1ADKN-9805 even though later on (May or June 52) the number...

I remember you posted some pics of your 53 before, I really like that Major as it looks really original (I'm not totally sure about the exhaust but that's about it). I can't be sure when the diesel badge was added, but it wasn't very early on, there are Major's without it that look clearly original ...

Re: 1963 FSM front wheel spokes
Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as that, as many of the part nos. on castings don't match those in the book. Going back to the rear axle there's another one or two finished parts, the ones for a reverse crown wheel, I dont't know if there was a speedo version of that but there certainly was a...
