Re: Cast Aluminium Steering wheel

Hi guys, the reason I asked about these wheels was, my mate has an original 52 diesel major, with the wide belts, stepped footplates, etc, etc, and it also has an aluminium wheel, which has been on it from new because the farmer who owned it before who had it from new had said it had virtually had n...

Re: My Dexta pics

Another update, hopefully with pictures tomorrow. I got my engine back from the machine shop, it has had the following : 3 new liners, three new pistons and rings, crank re-grind, new bearings and thrust washers, and one new conrod, apparently one was out of round. A new oil pump turned up today, an...

Re: Dexta Tacho

Ah thats better. Ok my tacho is the same as yours, 1450rpm, digits at the top, but its got the pto and pulley speeds at lower rpms. Interesting all these small differences in tractors, I will get it re-built when I get round to cosmetic issues, I got the engine block back now so engine re-assembly e...

Hi ben,

I cant open that link, it keeps saying, 'link requested does not exist'.

Going by my serial numbers, mine is a late 58 / early 59 tractor, it only has five digits

Re: Dexta Tacho

I did wonder if that might be the case, I would like to keep the original tacho because of the hours etc so I will look into that.

Just another thing, its reading 44136, does that mean 44 thousand hours? Or 4 thousand, or more likely 14 or 24 thousand hours?

Thanks for your help ben :D

Dexta Tacho

I have done a search on this but cant find anything, but im sure ive seen it somewhere before.........can you take the tacho to pieces? Reason I ask, whilst waiting for my engine block to come back, I have taken the dash panel apart for painting, the tachos hour meter works fine, but the needle has ...

Re: Is this the oil pressure switch

Correct, but the earlier ones didn't have an oil light, they just had an oil pressure gauge. Ive got a 1954 major and its got a gauge, oil lights were used on the power major and super majors. Are you sure your major is a 1954? Could it have a later engine in it, and they have transferred the dash a...

With that type of oil pressure switch, I guess you have either a power major or super major?

Oil pump

After examining my oil pump, its cracked on two of the mounting holes. I could weld it, but for £35 I can buy a new one! Only thing is it states that some pipework may need altering, has anybody bought a new oil pump?

Re: trans to rear oil leak

Hi kerry, i have the very same issue. Ive made a pipe up to go from the hydraulic valve chest to the gearbox, and i just pump it back over from time to time. I am eventually planning on replacing the seal along with a few other things! Your leak does sound small, but it can only get worse, especiall...

Interestingly I am at almost exactly the same point as you with my dexta - but I meant to get carried away! My engine is at a local engineers workshop being re-built, as soon as its back I will be needing that thrust bearing - I wonder if its worth ringing FNH, I suppose we would need an origi...

Ive just come accross this problem myself, I need to replace the thrust bearing on my live dexta, is the bearing pressed onto the hub? Are any parts suppliers selling the correct bearing or is the 22mm the only one available?

Yeah if they look all roughly the same and have no flat spots, sounds like they are ok. There cant be much more wrong! Other than like you say something has broken under the timing cover, have you looked there?
