I personally would remove the hitch (it looks to be an old type) and cut off the plate and get a new hitch that bolts through the drawbar.

Re: Trailer hitch query for you welders out there
Don't forget that unbraked trailers can only go up to 750Kg All up weight (weight of trailer PLUS its load). I would also check on your driving license conditions due to restrictions depending on your age and class. Take a very close look at your driving license. A useful tip: When you get your trai...

Re: Trailer hitch query for you welders out there
What thickness is the plate? Where do the weld beads run? all the way around where the plate contacts the tube? Does the weld bead look even and consistent? Are there Nyloc nuts on the mounting bolts? I would have a bracing fillet welded along the sides of the tube where the Jockey wheel bolts go th...

Re: Running a log splitter
Don't get an alloy one as there isn't much metal left when you've drilled out a hole for a 3/4"BSP thread. Try this one: https://www.mayhilltractors.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1298&search=filler+plug I have had my filler fitted with a return now for over 12 years and have never e...

Remember you will have to modify your rear axle filler plug to accommodate a return Hydraulic line.

Re: Running a log splitter
I run an Oxdale logsplitter on my Dexta and have found it to be good under most conditions. See http://www.oxdaleproducts.co.uk/log-splitters/detail/tm400-tractor-mounted-log-splitter Like most older Dexters, when they were designed the Hydraulics was sufficient for the day to run single rams such a...

Take a look at the bottom of the (6th) Announcements section (WIKI) and there is an article there I wrote on upgrading your Dexta electrics, this may help.

Re: New Members Super Dexta
Many Tractor spares people do them, search for "Ford Transmission Filler Plug". Choose the more solid type rather than the alloy type as when you drill and tap it there isn't much meat left on the nut part. https://old20tractorparts.com/dexta/1684-plug-transmission-filler-1140124.html Drill it throu...

Re: New Members Super Dexta
Whichever way you have them, basically they should both go out on starting and if either comes on in normal use then STOP and investigate! Yes you need to know which colour indicates which area to investigate but reg for oil or charge doesn't matter. Why not label the lights with an indelible pen? I...

There is available here on this forum the user and workshop manuals to enable you to get everything done. As a guide, the sump takes 7.2L (12pints) (including oil filter), Gearbox 13L (23pints), Rear Axle 19.3L (34pints) and the steering box 2 1/2 pints. All 20W-40 weight oil. If your going to use a...

Re: Butler rear mudguard lights.
It doesn't take much to wire in a switch to operate brake lights when you put your foot on the brake pedals. If you intend using it on the road then it will benefit you, the driver of the vehicle following you and the police/insurance! We have come a long way from the 1950's thinking in motor vehicl...

Re: Urgent - Fan Belt
The other option is to replace the Dynamo with an alternator especially if your only using it for short sessions. That of course means a different puley size! I had the same problem with the bottom hose. Re moving the dynamo back on its bracket even a few mm might make a difference. The belt would b...

Re: Introducing My Dexta
If you have electrical issues/niggles then maybe replace your loom with modern wires and add the modern essentials such as Indicators, brake lights and trailer electrics. I did mine quite a while ago and it is available under the WIKI section.
Cheers and enjoy.

Re: Front wheel bearing & spindle
While your in that area I can recommend replacing the bolts which connect the radius arms to the Axle Extension arms. I had terrible wheel wobble and it was cured by replacing these bolts. I don't believe they are listed but they are the same size as the wing fixing bolts to the rear axle. Cheers Je...
