Re: Diagram for primary gearbox required
I was in the shop checking the gearbox. It is 4-5 mm spare and the outside plates are springloaded by an inside spring, to avoid friction if handbrake is not engaded. When I put the primary gearbox back in, I will remeber Brians advice and cut of the first teeth of the loocking mechanism to aviod ru...

Re: Diagram for primary gearbox required
Rebuilding just the handbrake is no Problem at all.
Just think about checking all bearings while the primary gearbox is out.
Check the following thread:

I only wanted to rebuild the brake.............

Re: Fordson Major Diesel - starting problems
Hi Ernie, I don`t know were you are located, but we had new tractrors here that could not be started at -10° C . We installed an electric heater to the cooling system, that makes live much easier even for the engine. If your problems only ocure in winter time you might think about such heaters. They...

Re: Major 4 WD
Today I was able to do some work on the tractor. After my experiance with the broken handbrake on my 59 Major, I decided at least to check the brake on this unit and if necessary, putting in new discs. I took out the primary gearbox and what happened  http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y383/...

Re: Clutchpedal spring Selene
Don ´t hurry,
I have seen, there are springs on the classic Major as well. So it ´s only the question how to place it.
I hope my bearing will arrive today, so I can put the engine on.

Clutchpedal spring Selene
Hallo, these days I am working on my 4 wd, changing the engine and I replaching the clutch bearing. The old one was worn, because the torsion spring was not able to push the bearing all the way back, when not engaded. Should there be an aditional spring on the pedal? If so, is there a picture availi...

Hallo Bill,
as far as I am informed, the 8100 was converted by County.
Maybe the Osborne/County Company can give you some Support.

PTO question
Hallo, I am going to rebulid a New Performance I bought without a pto shaft. There cold be two major problems: I probably will not be able to find a NP typ shaft, bearing and attatchment plate here in Germany. Fordson breakers are not existing :( Second, the tractor has a Selene type gearbox for the...

Re: What size is my Dowty Coupling?
Hi Peter,
do you Need the "dowty" coupling?
If not, take it off and replace it with the female quick release typ. It is cheaper and there is one coupling less to cause problems.

A raised PTO is visible on the back.
There is a small gearbox with a upright lever on the right hand side.
Show us a picture of the backend and we will tell you what you´ve got

Re: Date of production
Thank you Tim,
that could be the missing link for me.
An enginenumber only 4.000 units awy from my tractor makes it pretty sure to be a 1961 Super Major.
The 38" rears and the "OS" rev counter are the same on my tractor.
