Re: My first tractor Resto Grandpa's E27N
Hi Andrew, Empire Blue is a lighter colour than the E27N Navy Blue. Sparex sells a Blue paint listed as E27N Blue (S.84393) Melbourne Tractors just around the corner from my work can get Sparex parts and paint so I would expect that other major tractor parts suppliers should be able to supply the pa...

Hi, The only lens I have found that goes even close is the Pattern Lucas 6 1/2"in. glass/reflector. Catseye pattern Pt.no. HL50193 sold by Goffy Lighting. http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffylighting.htm The part of the lens that protrudes through the rim is slightly smaller being 6" rather than 6 1...

Re: oil seal for pulley?
Hi Rich, The 90mm sounds a bit odd to me. Did you measure the hole that the seal fits into with a vernier? If not you may actually have a hole which is closer to 89mm which is very close to 3.5 inches and 13mm is near enough to 1/2 inch (12.7mm). I would check that measurement again as 3.5 x 2.5 and...

Re: What year is my P6?
Hi, I don't think your tractor can be dated from the numbers you have given us. The engine number I would expect to start with a 3 and be stamped on a flat machined surface towards the back of the engine on the exhaust side near the head gasket from memory. The number you quoted looks more like a ca...

Re: Repair my Petrol Major or go Diesel?
Hi Gary,
Try Allen on 0432 060 485. BUSS HRS 8-4 (BRISBANE AUTO EXCESS) I have bought a set of oversized pistons for my Perkins P6 off him recently and he was good to deal with. He deals with a lot of old stuff so he may have the parts you need.
Regards, Frank.

Re: N model 16" full cast front wheels
Hi Mike, I see what you mean about the offset. My E27N rims look the same as yours. Mind you the casting patern is almost the same as the E27N wheels. Malcom Moore did the castings for all the wheels on E27Ns delivered in Victoria so that style of front rim is the most common over here. Have you mea...

Re: Where to split Doris?
Hi Andy, From a purely practical point of view I would just take the engine off as it gives you access to the clutch and input shaft seals which could do with inspection if you are doing a restoration. It will not give you equal sized parts as the engine is a lot smaller than the back end, but the a...

Re: N model 16" full cast front wheels
Hi Mike, Can you post a photo? I have a spare set of Malcom Moore solid cast wheels to suit an E27N, but I don't know if they would fit the Model N or match your wheels. My E27N parts list does list the wheel bearings as Model N part numbers so they might fit if the axle length on the spindle was th...

Re: Fordson Standard Crane tractor
Ours was on solid rubber wheels and had a starter, which sparked a discussion on here and in the NVTEC magazine as to if and when starters were used on the "N". Thoughts were that it was an E27N engine but as far as us "old-uns" could find out, it came with that engine originally and was built in t...

Re: Dexta died and will not start :(
Hi George, If your Dexta is turning over as slowly as the one in the video and it is only 0 celsius where you are it will be very difficult to start without a working cold start heater and pump IMHO. Although I don't have a Dexta my Perkins P6 will make the same smoke and noise for ever unless I use...

Hi, I have never tried a butlers lens in a lucas rim but I do know there is a small difference in the size of the front opening. I fitted 6 1/2 inch lucas lenses into my buttlers lights and found that the front part of the lens that pokes out of the rim was a few mm smaller than the butlers lenses. ...

Re: E27N TIMING????
Hi Andy, The way you have timed the magneto is nowhere near number 1 top dead center, hence why it is now back firing. The way to get close to number 1 top dead center is to look for the point where number 4 exhaust is just closed and number 4 inlet is jut opening. When both valves are at ebout the ...

Re: N model Grader?
Hi Mike, It may not be so easy to change flywheels from Model N to E27N. From what I understand, the Model N has a multiplate clutch and the E27N has a more standard single plate clutch. I can't imagine that the thrust bearing positions and all the other stuff would be the same between the two clutc...

Re: N model Grader?
Hi Mike, Have you checked under the starter cover plate? If it has the original Model N flywheel it won't have a ring gear, in which case you could choose any starter / ring gear combination you want so long as the diameter of the ring gear is close to the flywheel size. You might ask your local aut...

Re: Restoration/repair update and a couple of questions
Hi Laurie, Just a thought, you did mention you had another gearbox. Why not strip the gears out of the housing with the broken pins and fit them into the other housing. Doing this would allow you to check the bearings while you had it apart just to make sure your strange piece of metal was not part ...

Hi Bram, Great work on your tractor it looks fantastic. I am green with envy  I would love to have a 7.7 high top special low gear gear box in mine. Re: clutch bind
Hi Ben, You are probably talking about a lot of oil to over fill to that level. However if you soaked the rope seal before assembly there should be no problem with it on start up as it would still be well oiled, but I would pull the injectors out before start up and turn it over on the starter until...

Hi Henk, Looking at the photo Brian posted maybe there is an esier way. Just undo the clamp, lengthen the slot in the tube about 10 mm, position the wheels so that the toe in is right and then file a new grove for the clamping bolt to line up with the new position. clamp it back up and job is done. ...

Hi Henk. A while ago I bought a replacement spindle for one of my tractors and found that the spline was machined different to the original. It seemed to have the the valey where the peak should be so was half a spline out. That was an Ebro part. I suspect that if you replace all the spindles and st...

Re: Steering Box - overhaul or not?
Hi Ben, As a work around to get your shim sizes back to more reasonable levels you could use smaller ball bearings and maybe an extra one or two because there would be more room. If your geometry was up to scratch you could calculate the exact diameter difference needed to achive any desired shim si...

My FTP shirt has mostly been lurking in the Brunswick region of Melbourne, but it just recently took a trip to my brother in law's place in Macedon very close to Hanging Rock where we removed a rather tall tree that was threatening his house. 30 Metres of rope was needed to be far enough away for wh...

Hi Brian. Given the price of new bearings for a Perkins P6 TA it is probably a good idea. It would probably bolt right up to the gearbox too. I am just not too sure I could get used to the sound of one of those more modern 6 cylinder symphonies after getting used to the purr of my P6 (Puma). No offe...

Hi all, When I was looking for a new muffler for my tractor I ended up buying a brand new Yuba spark arrester. As far as I know it is a legal requirement to have a spark arrester fitted if you want to use your tractor on total fire ban days in Australia. The design has not changed much, only the bra...
