Fordson Muffler
My wife said that I needed to paint the muffler on my Super Major, which is strange because she usually has no interest in my tractors. She likes this Super, for some reason. The muffler was a little rusty, but I thought it looked okay for a muffler. Since she likes the tractor, I figured that I wou...

Re: What Is This Screw For?
Thanks, Svend. I think that I will adjust it, so it smokes just a little under load, similar to the vacuum governed ones, unless someone tells me otherwise.

Re: What Is This Screw For?
I'm having trouble with the governor. It won't increase the fuel when the engine is put under load. I had already diagnosed the problem, I just didn't know it at the time. Thanks again SvendH for telling me where the fuel index screw is. We used to call those the "smoke screw" on the old Ford/Inter...

Re: Ford Backhoe Loader Model Help.
Hi Dave.
I asked a couple of guys I know that used to work for the Ford dealership back in the day. They said the serial number didn't make any sense to them either. They thought that one of the numbers was missing.

Re: 62 super major hydraulic pump growl
Is that normal for the fluid to dump over the relief like you mentioned ? Yes that's normal. A gear pump is always producing pressure. If your lift is all the way up and the lever is all the way up, the fluid has nowhere to go. If the lever was in a neutral position the fluid could return to the re...

Re: 62 super major hydraulic pump growl
Did you have the arms as high as they would raise and the lever was still in the raise position? It sounds like the fluid had nowhere to go, so it was dumping over the relief.

Re: What Is This Screw For?
Svend, I just paid for a subscription to Image Shack. I think it was about $30 for two years. I'd rather pay for one, than depend on a free one, as long as its not too expensive. Rick, The screw on the right end of the pump adjusts the damping valve. It can be adjusted to let a little air in to take...

Re: What Is This Screw For?
I see what you are talking about now. Not the damping valve screw, but the one on the other end of the pump!I don't think the screw on vacuum-governed pump serves the same purpose. I think it's basically a buffer screw.

Re: What Is This Screw For?
Thanks Svend! The top of the screw was broken off and I was wondering what it was for. It looks like it shouldn't be screwed in that far. Its so far down inside the lock nut that there would be no room for the lock wire and lead seal. I'm having trouble with the governor. It won't increase the fuel ...

What Is This Screw For?
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/4979/B8qtko.jpg Its on the top of my Minimec governor housing. You would think that I would know what it does, since I just had the governor apart, but I didn't pay any attention to it. They seem to only be on Minimecs on Fordsons. Diagrams of other Minimecs d...

Re: moly-paste transmission additive
Put SAE 30 in the transmission, not 90. It’s also the reservoir for the hydraulic system.
Technically, the rear axle is the hydraulic reservoir, not the transmission, but the oil usually gets mixed and Fordson recommends the same oil in both.

It looks like the one with no markings would be the top compression ring, since it can be installed either side up.

Re: wiring harness
Mine has a break in exactly the same place JC, must be vulnerable, a bit of black self amalgamating heat shrink sleeve is a reliable cure. That is just a parts tractor, Rick, so I don't really need to repair the wire loom. Its good advice for the guys that need to fix theirs. None of my other Major...

I would check Agriline. You probably won’t find one for a Super Major with an alternator, because they came with generators.

I'll bet the the bulbs were made by Lucas, too. They are tough, for sure. I'm glad no smoke has escaped from your electrical system. If it does, someone was selling bottles of factory Lucas smoke on eBay!

Working The Old Major
I wanted to use my Super Major to disc some fire trails, but its not quite finished yet. It's getting too hot and dry to wait any longer, so I got the '55 Major out. it's been a working tractor all its life. Still is, but it doesn't get worked very hard or very often now. It needs a good cleaning, t...

Re: Interesting Light Bulbs
It's amazing that your bulbs still work after all these years. Only one of my instrument panel lights work. I don't know about the headlights yet. They aren't on the tractor at the moment, because I have FMD grilles in it, until I get grilles with the light holes in them. The nice thing is that no o...

Interesting Light Bulbs
I took the dash off of my Super Major to change some gauges and do some other work to it, and I found this light bulb.
I didn't realize that they made their own bulbs.

Re: stuck in gear
I have some pictures of my tractors from my old computer on a thumb drive. I'll post some in the next few days. Kerry said that he had his pump rebuilt in Long Beach, so I'm guessing that he's in southern California. I'm in northern California. I'd like to see some pictures of Kerry's tractor too!
