Re: Tacho cable 1961 Dexta
I’ve vague memories of using splinters of wood to pack between the driving square/socket. Worked for years. Love it - you should be a Kiwi! Thanks Mathias - I will keep my searching eyes tuned. Following up this thread, there are numerous business specialising in reconditioning instruments and maki...

Re: Tacho cable 1961 Dexta
Interesting! I have not been able to find a local supplier, one UK based business wants 45 pounds for one like the original - seem to remember someone once saying they were able to build up the worn end on their original, the fitting it goes into seems fine when I put the tacho end into it, snug and...

Re: Tacho cable 1961 Dexta
The type is common to quite a few tractors, including apparently the later Dexta. I might have to get creative with that old cable.

Tacho cable 1961 Dexta
The engine end on my cable has deteriorated and stopped working, recently bought a repro part that did not fit as apparently a change was made in later production. Anyone have any ideas on sourcing the original fitting or other options please? Pic shows the original versus the bought part. https://i...

Be good to keep up with your progress, Mervyn, given the amount of gas from my breather I would like to do the same and fix the several leaking seals at the same time!

Re: Dexta Torque Setting
Sorry mate, that one is outside my experience. Might take a bit of searching on the web or give a tractor repair shop a pack of biscuits for morning tea and ask them! Repair manuals are easy come by on the likes of Ebay, check through the 'World series' part of the forum - never know what gems are i...

The repair manual for the original Dexta says "55 to 60 lbs" but you have a later 2000/Dexta

Sad news, and I for one would like to thank those who have maintained it all these years, allowing me to rejuvenate and enjoy a true classic machine and learn so much! My father worked for some years at Brooksby Agricultural College in Leicestershire when I was a kid, before we came to NZ, and when ...

Re: Hydraulic lift not lifting much
If you read the "engine oil" thread at the top of the Dexta forum it will give you all you need for the hydraulics as well. It is all the same oil! There is a level-check bolt on the side of the lift housing - the oil level needs to come up to the hole once removed. Pretty sure it is the square head...

Firewood cutting season
I guess a large proportion of the forum is busy burning their firewood but over here in dry midsummer I have had the Dexta working for a living. Pulled a tree that blew over last winter but was hung up (it was caught up on the split tree top left in pic) with a snig chain then hauled the cut rounds ...

Re: Please gather round and help assess my new Super Dexta
Your rear wheels have the classic worn seals signs (leaks around the hub/brakes) - not a hard job to replace with the right tools! I am sure this has been covered off before in this forum or the old one - did my standard Dexta 10 years ago and they are still leak free so worth doing. Seals are a sto...

Re: Advice for getting Dexta ready for work.
With the fluids change don't ignore the oil bath at the base of the air filter - remove the bath, drain the old oil and wipe out the bath itself - amazing what accumulates over a few days hard work! Clean out the bugs and other stuff sucked into the radiator -( I just turn a hose onto it from the in...

More than one of these tractor are still in existence in NZ - one in the Christchurch Museum collection and at least one other in private hands. Complete with the tracks!
