Re: N model Grader?

Thank you Frank, I was hoping to have something that looks fairly original, I know some starters have a sleve that the pinion gear slides out on, but i guess I would have to be lucky to get one to fit? I do not know which flywheel it has yet so I should remove the blanking plate and have a look. The...

Re: Late Super Major injection pump rev counter drive

Hello, I have given some tought to the problem before because I have 2 pumps with the industrial shaft.Boring the camshaft shoudn't be very difficult.I don't think they are hardened to the core, and you can buy a carbide drill. For the square drive ,I had tought to bore a hole and fill it with a spec...

Re: Late Super Major injection pump rev counter drive

Would it be easier to drive the tach off of the auxiliary drive, like the earlier Majors? The situation was that I was trying to have it look externally original and use the standard cable and if I drive it from the front, the cable will be 300 mm too short with my 6cy engine. The availabliity of a...

Fordson N starter motors

Hello all, I have recently purchased a Fordson N Grader that has had a replacement engine fitted this is a later version with the starter motor mounting, however as the tractor is 1937 it does not have the clearance in the flywheel housing to fit a starter normal motor, does anyone know if there is ...

Re: N model Grader?

No there is not a grader in those parts, that is one half of the picture and only some of us can see the other half for some reason, I can't see the other half myself! I have managed to work out a bit more on this grader, It has PW 15 stamped into the main front beam this will mean main Roads number...

Re: pump govenor

Hello, yes these pumps do seem to be very similar, I would ask your local fuel injection service centre, if you can find old time personell with the experience. The governors between the 1963, 1965 and K series are interchangable as I have recently had these apart, so there is a good possibility tha...

Re: Late Super Major injection pump rev counter drive

Hello and thank you very much for those pictures, it helps a lot. I had been thinking the rotation could well be different and It was the late ( Mimtec ) type that I was referring to. Good to know about those "original " repo tachos. I think my Idea of drilling a hole in the end of the shaft would w...

N model Grader?

Hello everyone, Yesterday I picked up Grader I think it could be a model N going by the earlier diff type. The engine number is R18403 this appears to have been struck out and another number 823037 stamped underneath it. I have wondered if the engine had been replaced with an earlier one and the old...

Thank you for that, it makes things a more clear. If anyone needs to make one, assuming there is no copyright issues, here are some measurements, http://i51.tinypic.com/wvw8.jpg I picked up an old rusted spark arrester from a farm dump and hope to make one myself, the tricky part will be the 4 flute...

Australian Major Spark arrstors

Hell all, In Australia we originally had the Yuba spark arresters on our tractors and I want to refit one to my Power and Super Major tractors. A couple of months ago I found on a farm dump an old rusted one that I want to use as a sample to make a new one, & I thought that others may be interested ...

Hello, am probably the Australian doing the conversion mentioned. The sump, side rails and the Bonnet are the hardest things to streach, but not too difficult. ( I have yet to resolve the sump issue ) The steering drag link obviously will need to be extended too. Clutches are a consideration also, t...

Re: Blue smoke and loud engine knock after head reconditioni

Tophat, your problem could be the air cleaner. This summer I took the air cleaner assembly off of the Super six and cleaned it out really good in the parts washer (mineral spirits). I reinstalled, started the tractor, topped off the power steering fluid and a checked a few other things, I then hopp...

Re: Blue smoke and loud engine knock after head reconditioni

Hi 1962 model: one of the banjo fittings was broken: i resoldered it in place but there is no diesel as yet bleeding back from the port hole on the head. Was probably like this for a while as there is no pipe going back to the tank from the head anyway and it was dry with no diesel weeping onto the...

Hello, Brand new crankshafts are available from Argiline or old 20 parts if you cannot find a second hand one. Firstly what condition is your engine as it may be just as well to recondition the whole engine? If you have a bad knocking noise in your engine it might be from a couple of different sourc...

Hello, Mike from the West here again. I have named my Fordsons after the previous owners mostly to stop confusion when explaining to the family which one is which, since I started doing this I have aquired three more Fordson, The new major is probably going to be called streach as it is being conver...

Have not recieved your address as yet. 1949 E27N had a curtain have seen later models fitted with shutters. Hello, it is my understanding that all E27N, New Majors & Majors had shutters till the change of engine in 1958, They are not listed in the 1958 and later parts books used in Australia. No sh...

Late Super Major injection pump rev counter drive

Hello all, Can anyone tell me or better still show me some pictures of how the late Super Major injection pump rev counter drive works. Hello, I have an Australian Super Major with a Jan 1961? block date ( A 27 F ) this makes it similar to your model, but you would need to get a parts book to work out things like which hydraulic top it came with? Hello,
a bit off subject, but if anyone is looking for a conventional solanoid starter for their Fordson, the later Thames Trader, and the K series models are a source of second hand starters, D series is a possibility too.

Re: fordson e1a major front tyre size

Hello all, Our tractors in Australia did not have spoked wheels they were solid cast wheels with three round holes ( probably to bolt extra wheel weights. My relollection of the 1955 New Major was that the steering was heavier than the later 58- 63 ones, perhaps the one we owned had siezed steering ...
