Re: What I’ve been doing with my Dexta
I can see this is turning into one of those never ending "JUST" jobs! Persevere like you sound you are and you will add another 50 years onto it's life. Are the tyres OK? Next job to check is the trunnion bush for the front axle and I would suggest replacing the bolts which tie the radius rods to th...

Re: Engine rebuild.
Hi Mervyn When you have rebuilt your engine and have got it installed and ready for use then it needs to be worked hard so that the rings can bed in and seal properly. When I rebuilt my engine 10 years ago I used it on it's first time out for topping. It never missed a beat and has remained faithful...

The other common cause of the head not coming off is the oil feed at the right rear of the head.

Re: Dexta nuts and bolts
Make a list of the sizes you think you will need and visit a Classic vehicle show. There are a lot of stands selling small bags of fixings very cheaply.
I would say 7/16". 1/2", 9/16" and 5/8" in different lengths would be a good start.
You can never have enough fixings in your workshop.

The lever is used to A: Engage the starter motor pinion (Gear) with the flywheel ring gear and B: to operate the solenoid to feed power into the motor. 1.Have you got a voltage on one terminal of the two small terminals on the starter without engaging the starter but with the ignition on? If no then...

Re: Firewood cutting season
I mainly use my Dexta for log hauling, Cutting with my Ferg$%^& Cordwoodsaw and then with my Hydraulic logsplitter. All in all a useful size and tool combination to keep SWMBO happy. Mainly Alder from the banks of the brook adjoining my 1 1/2 acres but last year was allowed to take away three big Be...

Re: I don't understand oil wieghts...
The figure used are to indicate to the user the viscosity of the oil when used in the summer and the W bit is the viscosity in winter. Think Colder = thicker. Modern oils contain a lot of viscosity modifiers and other additives and of course these days you can get Normal, semi-synthetic and fully sy...

Re: Dad's REME photos
The round hatches in the Veh roofs were known as "Cupola's" and were provided so that the co-driver could act as an "Air Sentry" so you could bale out when a Stuka was coming down at you! Some had round knobs on the roof so that you could fit an Anti-Aircraft machine gun to. Again a WW2 concept but ...

Re: Dad's REME photos
Hi IMHO as I'm also ex REME (63-87), the trucks in photo 2 are QL's and were still in service in the 1960's (specialist type veh's), the two Scamells are a knocker early diesel and the nearer one is a petrol wrecker (interesting with the engine side panels on). I learnt to drive in a Scamell wrecker...

Re: front axle
I had this on my Dexta! Cured/minimised it by replacing the radius arm bolts on the Axle. They are the same size as the wing mounting bolts to the back axle. Couldn't see any wobble/slack when turning the steering wheel but it definitely improved it so it is now comfortable/safe to drive on the road...

Re: Manifold Heater
If you have the seperate fuel jet fitted just before the heater, There is a tiny spring in the nozzle which holds a ball to seal it . When you press the primer the pressure lifts the ball off the seat aagainst the spring and fule is then sprayed onto the heater. If over time water may get into the s...

That's where there is normally a tube with a 360 deg loop in it goes. Mine does drip also but when your driving you don'y notice it.

Hi all Here's my Dexta with a Fer%^&on Cordwood Saw. Cuts logs easily and with a length of 1" to 3' long. The 1" thickness was Ash logs of 9" dia cutting them into 1" thick discs for plates for a wedding party. Everyone took their plates home as a souvenir!! http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/oldtrac...

Dexta crane
I saw it on ebay a couple of years ago at a very good price. Very handy moving poorly tractors and other awkward things
Doesn't take long to fit and doesn't use the 3pl so no strain or side movement.

Re: Logging PTO winch for Dexta
Having been involved with Recovery in my time in the Army, a good earth spade should take all the pull of the winch with little strain on the linkage. The more pull the deeper the spade goes in. Any shackles/blocks should attach to the spade. This way the linkage is only for stability and transport....
