simms fuel pumps

Hi. I have 2 super majors that have simms minimac mechanically governed fuel pumps. Both look identical but one has a plate with p4630 on and the other has p4596 on.

Does anyone know what the difference is.

put more fuel in. Rotary pumps need a decent head of fuel to get primed.

Re: Ford 4000 fuel pump

Depends on how compitent you are. Not a bad job to replace the pump unit on the end or take it to a diesel fitter

Re: Ford 4000 fuel pump

if you do it carefully you can remove the three bolts that bolt gear to pump with out taking the gear out of mesh with the other gears and knocking the timing out. The pump should have a dowel in so it will only bolt to gear one way.

you need to remove the plate on the timing case and remove the timing gear.

Re: welding advice

Best make a new one with a new bit of bar and screw cut both ends with new nuts. Will be far stronger than weld as it will have to lift possibly a 12 tonne trailer or more.

Selene used the roadless axle but made their own sandwich box ans were sold to the french and spanish etc . The light on these tractors were on the outside of the cowl. If its had a replacement block the serial number will start with an s.

Re: tight crank

Thats the problem.
When the shells are sat on the crank they sgould meet at the end and have no gap. This enables a though or two around the journal.

Either the shells are small or the crank is big.

How much of a gap do you have.

Re: tight crank

so what size does the crank measure compared to the bearings? Is the crank smaller?

Have you installed one cap at a time o see if you can narrow it down to one spot?

as already said if a cap is 180degrees out, it will sieze. Takes only a thou or two out of line to lock it up.

i stand to be corrected but if i were you i wouldnt. The last thing you want is the paint coming off and blocking your pump, proper paint or not :?
