Re: Badge Mounting Studs

Re: Song Link
Yes, there are some nice videos with one or two lungers providing the percussion although most I've seen have been 'oom pah' style rather than bluegrass - praps its time for me to have another look.....

Re: What Is This Screw For?
@JC yes, left hand as you face the pump is what I've known as the max boost adjustment which controls the maximum travel of the rack (but is over ridden by the cold start which allows full travel of the rack) and the screw on the right hand end controls the minimum revs rack position, the engine sto...

As the youngsters say 'Result!' more likely some running is getting better ring sealing and increased compression

Re: What Is This Screw For?
So I was right ;) You can see it has broken at the cross hole through which the wire that was lead sealed went through, so given that the locknut looks to be a turn or so undone the screw will be pretty well in (compared to the one at the back end of the older pump unit (which IIRC screw in to restr...

Re: What Is This Screw For?
Shame it's not April 1st or I would tell you it is to adjust the Flunging valve tremulator spring ;) but without the smiley ! Unfortunately the workshop manual is not very helpful with the pumps - I expect they had enough problems caused by the unknowing tinkering with the throttle bellows bias spri...

Re: Vacume vs. Minimec governers
Have you got one of the more modern, softer plastic rather than the original rigid Tufnol coupling elements or something different to the Oldham pattern coupling? Not a difficult thing to make if you really want one and have (or have a mate with) a lathe, the UK brand name for the material is 'Tufno...

Re: Vacume vs. Minimec governers
You have exactly the same position as I had Svend my de glazing bores and lapping valves in has improved the warm start situation I still need the button for cold starting - pump and injectors were next on the list but the friend of my old mate Terry who used to do a good job at an affordable price ...

Re: Super Major,Super leak.
First you ideally need a trailer connector, or if not, break one of the screwed joints before the tractor bit of the connector and stick a bit of garden or other hose over the pipe end long enough to reach the gearbox filler. then at low revs carefully raise the hydraulic lift quadrant and oil will ...

Re: Super Major,Super leak.
Hose on the tipper pipe gets it back into the gearbox from the transmission easily. You have discovered the 'Niagara' seal between gearbox and transmission has failed. You know when it is really overfilled as the oil comes out of the hub seals ans widdles all over the inside of the back wheel hubs I...

Mine has a break in exactly the same place JC, must be vulnerable, a bit of black self amalgamating heat shrink sleeve is a reliable cure.

Re: wiring harness
Good point JC, should be able to use the dynamo field wire in the loom as the alternator field wire - as long as the regulator is no longer in circuit which may mean a short wire extension if the one in the new loom doesn't reach the ignition switch. Dave and I have 'spoken' on PM particularly about...

Re: Oil pressure dropping within 15mins
Hi Mike Don't know if you noticed my gauge, for the first time in donkeys years it shows pressure - all 30 psi's :D - Down to a filter and oil change, have filled up with Morris Golden Film SAE 20w50 Classic Motor Oil as recommended by Brian, I didn't drop the sump and clean the pump intake filter b...

Re: Interesting Light Bulbs
Maybe there was something to their claims of superiority of the EnFo Ford bulbs after all - although it is quite probable they were made by someone like Lucas and 'badged' for Ford, as they subcontracted lots of work out to outfit's like J J Wright, who Brian worked for. I found some of the wire ins...

Re: Interesting Light Bulbs
I recently had a problem with twin filament headlamp bulbs JC, trying to cross reference as the handbook 'helpfully' said to only use Ford bulbs ! Fortunately found some NOS Lucas at a sensible price :) Also found some aerosol 'chrome' paint which has made a nice job of reviving the reflectors, whic...

Re: poor cold-starter
While I've yet to have my pump & injectors serviced Sven I'd agree with Mathius, having honed my bores to break the glaze up and ground the valves in, I have still had to use a whiff of ether to cold start, even with the button pressed, and when warm or hot (before honing) I also had to use the butt...

Approaching Completeness

Re: Badge Mounting Studs
You might want to find up a similar era diecast badge for a cheap car JC to experiment on with the stud welder, I think the speed the flash heat and cool cycle operates at there would be little time for an oxide layer to skin, the other thing I'd not thought of at the time is the low melting point a...

Re: Badge Mounting Studs
For stainless and mild steel I have used weld studs which have a flat head with a 'pip' to space them from the point of application, they are fitted by using a collet to hold them in contact and a pulse of power which discharges causing a big flash that melts stud and surface which then fuse togethe...
