Steering wheels

Hello all,
I've got two Fordson N steering wheels but one of them has a plastic type of cover on the rim, blue ish in colour.

Which one is the proper one for the N or is one for the E27N?

Not sure if all E27N's had them but I think they used an aluminium diecast steering wheel.

I've seen 'compo' rims on N's which I assume is a heat cured Bakelite type material, my industrial had a crimped tubular steel rim as I recall brazing where it had rotted near a spoke.

While waiting for an expert to come along have you tried googling for images to see if you can identify what you have against what model they appear on most frequently ?

Sound as if both are better than my 'late' Nuffield which I drove home using a ring spanner wired onto the nut, quite an interesting experience !

hi here i have seen 4 spoke wheel press metal spokes inverted tapering u iron rim inverted c section n/s early e27 3spoke rubber covered mid range and the aluminium on the later

Thank you for the info so far.
I'll dig them out & look at their condition before deciding what to use. It will save using a spanner or the like but at 4mph I can't see me loosing control.

I had wondered if one was used on the E27N so Google images should help.

If you consider the 'standards' as a bunch there were quite a few types used Philip and as brockwood notes 4 spoke with the inverted U section pressing.

Trouble is if the centre mounting is the same, anything which can fit may be used during the working life

You might be safe assuming a wooden rim is from an earlier era but I'd not put money on it........

I have a 1951 e27n with an aluminium steering wheel & a 1953 e1a major with the same
But a friend has a 1947 e27n with the earlier model n steering wheel
I think you probably just got what there was.

Nope, only thing that bitten me recently is this bug which I'd shaken off has come back for another slice............
