3000 1969 starter

Post by Tallprop »

Hi, I'm new to this board.

I have a 1969 ford 3000 diesel which has an original lucas 26211t starter. It keeps clicking so I think it's a new solenoid needed (76835a stamped).

I see there are newer replacements. But as a diesel it needs a short starter to fit between the fuel filter.

I'm based in Kent. So should I find someone to overhaul this original starter (my preference) or swap out to a new starter.

Hi,
Are you restoring or in everyday use?
If reliability comes before looks maybe a geared starter would suit your needs. It will crank easier and faster, reducing stress on the battery - but it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you may be interested send me a pm and I'll pass on more details.

I want to restore it rather than change.
It's a rare conversion done my Haynes ford Maidstone to lower the tractor by 3'.
