Fuel consumption - E27N

Post by Tim W »

Can anyone give me an idea of how much fuel an E27 should get through?

I don't expect miracles but mine is currently drinking 1.5 litres in a little less than 10 minutes... at tickover - so about a 2 gallons /hour
- which seems a lot!
It starts and runs fine, plugs are black (rich not oil). Good compression. Carb recently stripped and cleaned.
Currently running later type manifold and sr4 mag.

Is this normal ?

Thanks
Tim

TVO engines are thursty,
your engine is running rich which wont help with the feul drinking, your plugs should be a tan brown colour when it is running correctly.
when ploughing you should use about a gallon/ gallon and a half a hour.
your mixture screw should be 2 1/2 turns out for normal work, on light work should be turned in a 1/4 of a turn to lean the mixture off.

A diesel E1ADDN will use up to 3 gal an hour in work, my petrol/kerosene E1ADKN uses around 4 gals an hour so I would expect that from an E27N.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds about right then.
- I guess "economy " and a 4l engine don't go together!
