Try this,

Or post an ad in the parts swap forum on this site.
I've worked on a few N's but never owned one. I have owned my share of F's though. Dandy Dave!

Hi Jason,
You might also try Old20. They may be a bit more convenient as they are a little closer to your home They have the magneto drive dog listed. http://www.old20.com/OLD20Shop/tabid/75 ... fault.aspx

Hi Jasonk
On the Fordson N the Engine & the Gearbox share the same oil so their is only one dipstick. It is usual to use a 'straight 30' oil or similar in these old engines rather than a multigrade.
The rear axle has a separate oil supply, no dipstick but a filler& level plug under the gearlever. The back axle is filled with a heavy gear oil sae 130 or similar.
Hope this helps

Lucas GJ4 is correct type, often on ebay, later RF4 from the E27 will fit, avoid the SR4, its cheap but has no advance/retard.
Patrick Edwards Tractors in Clanfield often has recon ones available but not cheap - about £250 /£300
- Might be cheaper/easier to have yours reconditioned

1947 E27N, some grey ones and a 1953 AJS 350...
£500 is way too much!!
I got a good RF4 on ebay for £100, they do come up at reasnoable prices but you have to be patient!
I would give Patrick Edwards a call, or try these guys -
http://www.magnetorepairs.com/
- they sell recon ones.
if you just want to get it running you should be able to pick up a cheap SR for £25-50

Beware of the SR4!
With no Advance/Retard starting can be very dodgy with a kickback.
Keep all four fingers AND your thumb all on the same side. You don't have to crank them fast either as the impulse mechanism is overridden and you don't get such a fat spark. My old friend Bill (Now ploughing in the clouds) used to just steadiliy lift his starting handle and off his N would go.
Just my pennyworth!

You must have a few Listers and Petters then?jasonk wrote: I have loads of stationary engines

I have had a few myself though the years. All American makes. I have kept four . A 1909 1 HP IHC Tom Thumb, A 1 HP Brown Wall air cooled, A 4-HP Sparta Economy. A very rare 6HP 1908 Ken Wood that was Stickney built and sold by Sears for a very short time.
I have had 35 or 40 good ones though the years. I have found that as I get older it is better to maintain a few favorites, than to try to keep a fleet. You cannot drive them off of a trailor like you can a tractor.

The Fordson 'N' does NOT share its Engine Oil with the Gear Box. It does share its Oil with the Clutch. The Dipstick is for Engine Oil only. Gear Box and Rear End share the same oil. If the Worm Wheel is phosphor bronze, then the oil should be of the straight Mineral type. Either SAE90, SAE140 or SAE 250.
