Fordson E27N rowcrop down under

Post by slim871 »

Gday all,
Thought id share some pics of our last Fordson resto.
This tractor was givin to us by a family friend, who's father-in-law bought it brand new in 1950. It was mainly used for growing and cultivating onions.
Fred reckoned he parked it in the barn in about 1974, so quite a few years ago. It looked to still be in reasonable nick and had a bit of compression so our plan was to refit the maggie, check the old girl over and see if we could just drive it out!
However the radiator had a hole in the core and in the end decided we'd just tow it out...We couldnt get it to roll. After checking the brakes, hand brake, ect we took the top off the final drive housing and found our problem.
Water had got in over the years and had totally destroyed the bull gears and pinions causing the back end to lock up. Lucky for us Fred also gave us the wrecked E27N that us ourselves had pilfered for years of parts for other tractors, which had an excellent back end, so we made one tractor out of two.
