Hercules engine conversion

Post by Eric Schulz »

Those of you who know your Fordson history will be aware that the first production tractors were fitted with engines made by Hercules Motors Corporation.
It is probably then not surprising that Hercules once again tried to get some profit out of the Fordson by offering a replacement engine. This was the OX series, with a bore and stroke of 4 x 5 inches.
Horse power was
24 @ 800
30 @ 1000
35 @ 1200
40 @ 1400
45 @ 1800
Invincible Motors of Australia were advertising these engines in a 1937 catalogue. Although I don’t have any Hercules history, I believe this engine could go back to the mid 1920’s. When the conversion kit was first produced I do not know.

We have an actual brochure for this conversion, but it is proving hard to find! This pic is taken from the Invincible catalogue.
