Hi Guys, when i dropped the sump off I found this little pin in the bottom of it, it was right up the very front of the sump under the gears...

I have no idea where it may have come from, if it actually came out of the motor at all (maybe it fell into the sump when it was off previously).
As you can see it's about an inch long and about 6mm thick, machined down to 4.5mm on the one end. 1/8th hole in the other (for spit pin maybe?).
It looks as thought it may have been broken off at the "machined down" end.

So does anyone out there know if it actually came from the tractor motor as at this stage I cannot see it going back in unless I can find a home for it.

Thanks guys,
Chris

Looks like a piece of intake, or exaust valve stem. The tractor must have broke one at one time. Not uncommon. Dandy Dave!

It's the 'cotter pin' hole which has me puzzeled...

That could also be possible. Some early valves used a small round pin to hold the valve retainer. The model "T" Fords, and Fordson, F's were this way. Although these early tractors/ autos did not have them, the recessed part could be for a valve seal of sorts. Dandy Dave!
