Hi all,
Now i have finally managed to have a look at my latest purchase a 1942 fordson n. I now have a few questions that i'd like to ask you all, so hope you don't mind me doing so.
1. Looking at my carb and comparing it to others i have seen my seems to look newer as it's a Zeneth carb, is this a orginal to a model N or is this a replacment. if it's not the original how easy is it to get hold of an original and at what sort of price are they, lastly what make/model are they?
2.Another carb related question. when i turn the fuel on i notice that fuel seems to be leaking fairly badly from the carb. It appears to be coming from a couple of places on the carb but the place i did notice was from the top butterfly vale/air intake. since speaking to a friend they told me that alot of them leaked petrol from the cars, is this true, if not what could it be?
3.Now my magneto isnt an original as i believe as its a what i think is a wico magneto, and my advance and retard lever is not connected to any thing, infact it's cut just behind the bulkhead is this ok or a probelm. what is the avaliablity of a genuine magneto for the model and is it worth changing back to original?
4. Lastly, i will be needing a new set of plugs, what are the best modern replacement/stock numer for this model?
many thanks for any help anyone can give me. If you have any tips for this tractor then i'd love to hear them as well.

Re: Few Model N questions.
It sounds as if you have the later E27N carb. but this was sold as an improvement for N's so is not uncommon , unless your being
very particular about returning to original spec. I would keep the Zeneth , much better starting and ecomomy .
If the carb is ok it shouldn't leak ! , these carb's do seem to distort though so an hour or two facing up the mating surfaces could
help , also check the float valve/level.
Original mag's do come up for sale but never cheap , tidy/unknown up to £100 - recon up to £200 ! so if yours is running ok it is
again down to how particular you are. ( my N and E27N are both on lucas SR4's )
N's had a brass fuel tap , the glass bowl taps came later on the E27N's , although again it is not uncommon to see either .
The sparkplug equivelent from champion is W14.
Reread your post and the fuel leaking sounds like the shut-off valve isn't shutting off , if it isn't just a bit of dirt parts are available from several places , Vintage Tractor Spares, Dunlop Tractor Spares , Cox and Turner , etc. etc.
If you post some photo's we can confirm the carb. and manifold .
