Towing a `N` ??

Post by rich2a »

Hi,Heard that you should`nt tow a `N` (standard) due to the worm drive arrangement rear axel :? - any comments?? If so how do I move and load a non runner onto a trailer :?: Its in a barn at the moment and would need a fair bit of shunting to get it out!! Thanks, Rich

I think the 'official' reply is that you are correct but having owned several over the years nearly all have been towed sometime and my present one ( when not running because aircleaner oil was to thin and it sucked through ) did around a mile or more trying to bump start ,so they can't be that delicate.
They also say you can't bump start an N but you can with a fair bit of skidding and a 4x4 or tractor to tow it , however if yours break's I decline all responsibility . ( I could almost be a politician !)
Just found this clip on youtube ! ( the language is a little colourfull ! )

Hiya Rich, I've owned several N's and i've towed mine about 4 miles to get it home once when it packed up. I've found they tow ok if your gentle and slow but I wouldn't reccommend trying to bump start it as this will but much more strain through the worm with engine compression etc.
