Carbie

Post by MH55k »

Anyone got a exploded diagram of a e27n carb I think it's the same as the e1a petrol carb with ford stamped on it. Morresy the major has a fuel problem the bowl seems restricted and she runs ok for about 5 min and the dies but you can keep it alive on the choke for a bit so I definatly think its fuel any help or advice would be greatly apreciated

Running with the choke on is a sure sign that the fuel level in the float bowl is being drawn down due to a delivery problem.
If it runs well, for five minutes, It's likely to NOT be the carb.

It's some obstruction. Follow the fuel from tank to carb ,

In order of the similar problems I have had with my E27n fuel delivery.

The tap on the tank, inlet pipe gets clogged from debris in the tank, remove glass bowl, dump and refit same , tun on fuel valve, and see how rapidly the bowl fills.
5 seconds TOPS! If plugged, a fine wire could be used to rod out an open valve, but that a right angle and not likely. Remove the tap, and clean thoroughly. Spray carb cleaner might do on short notice.

The outlet screen located at the lower surface of the tap, the tap body and bowl interface. Held in by the cork sealing ring which will be as brittle as rock candy.
That needs to be clear, fuel deposits build there, as that is the location of the air volume produced as the fuel drys out of the carb.. Your on your own here, but I would look at it carefully first and then spritz it with carb cleaner a few times, let set, then repeat. I took mine out to soak in harsh solvent, but it cost the cork seal to do so. 'Test is to remove the fuel line. turn on the tap, and watch for flow. Good flow, all is well. Both ends? Check and see. Is the fuel line blocked internally?

Lastly, the fuel fitting on the carb body. These gum up, clean it out. It comes off as a hex nut fitting, just loosen the fuel line compression fitting first.

After all those delivery issues are confirmed, then It could be a clogged or gummy float needle. (the carbie) Just not enough fuel flow even as the float falls.

Be careful of the fuel line fittings, if the line turns with the nut, it will twist and constrict (OH! that's another problem to check for, ask me how I know ;-))

Crack the nuts on the fittings, watching for any twisting of the line, If you detect any, rock the nut tight and loose over and over to loosen the hold the nut has on the line.

Once the nut is free and pushed back on the tubing, wriggle the tube a bit and the compression "olive" will come free.

Clean EVERYTHING on assembly.

Cheers

Cal

Thanks cal the tap was obstructed so a quick blast of air from the compressor and she is good as gold I will have to pull the tank of and give it a clean
