Radiator throttle control

Post by 1949E27N »

Hi everyone, currently on ebay Australia there is an E27N which has a throttle control rod which goes forward right up to the side of the radiator. This throttle control appears to be made from about 1/4" rod with a loop for a handle.
Can anyone shed a bit more info on this rod for me. What was it primarily used for? Was is standard on some year models or an accessory?
Has anyone got a nice close up picture of how it mounts onto the carb?
Thanks guys
Chris

Sounds like a Winter Front , or shutter, control rod. The shutters are in front of the radiator and run closed in the cold weather to help the engine heat up and stay hot. Also common on tractors that could be run on Kerosene. Nothing to do with the Carburetor. Dandy Dave!

Definitely carb related.

Have a look at the below link.

I'll put some pics up later when I get home.

Chris,

Yes, you are correct, it is related to the Fuel System. It is a front mounted choke rod, for use when hand starting the tractor. Normally used with the eartly type manifold and were probably manufactured by Malcolm Moore. Also, fitted to some of the old Model N's.

From memory the the front choke control was not fitted when the later type manifold was used.

Yup, a choke control for hand cranking. I was thinking of the New Major shutter control. Guess I lost me wee little head for a moment. Dandy Dave!
